This is a display in the Dakota Dinosaur Museum in Dickinson, SD. All of the other exhibits in this museum are straight forward paleontology. This case stands off to one corner of the main hall. It speculates on the past and future of human evolution. The bizarre sculpture on the left is one artist's (not mine) interpretation of what the skull of one of the "Gray" aliens might look like (if they existed at all). If any one recognizes this handiwork I would appreciate the name of the artist who sculpted and cast this unusual piece.

The DDM is only a couple of hours drive east of Glendive, Montana where there is a WTF Creationist "museum" of dinosaurs. It appears that this display at the DDM is a response to this, but it is as likely to confuse the public on the nature of reality as the Glendive abomination. Unfortunately a large portion of the public believes without critical judgment anything that they see in a museum.

This looks really neat! The "Gray" skull model is very well designed.

It's worth noting that the famous "grey aliens" aren't based on aliens at all. They are inspired by HG Wells's book "Man of the Year Million", which is a book about how humans might appear as a result of evolution a million years from now.

I personally consider the "Greys" to be a modern myth on par with alligators living in the sewers or Big Macs being made out of earthworms. The model in question possesses bones and anatomical details found in no Earth vertebrate. Therefor it cannot be meant to depict any being derived from earthly evolution. The new curator of the museum where this was displayed is a colleague of mine. He concurred with me that the exhibit should be retired.

I don't know the artist, but this skull is a model that can be purchased online: [link]

Wouldn't mind getting one, but not for $195.

Actually $195 is a reasonable price for such a complex cast. I know because I make casts of fossils myself. This skull would have to b hand poured in resin and hand finished. That doesn't come cheap.

True. Maybe I'll reconsider it.

I took several photos but got a lot of reflection off the glass. I look into it.
