Okay, I really don't want to be the "Stop Having Fun" guy, but I don't think you're really reaching for this one. I seem to remember, Ember was posing as a human in her first appearance, so her skin was a clammy gray, which, combined with costume and other details, gave the appearance that any undead-seeming tendencies were part of her act.
