This Cabalaero (c) picture is a study in blending Impressionism with M.C. Escher. Aside from being cute they are good practice in technique.

The floating leaves are an effect I observed in M.C. Escher drawings. This was the first painting I did with Cabalaeros and fish. After this I began to research koi. The ripples were easy but I got the refraction wrong.

I'm not sure I understand what refraction is but it is still a good picture. I give you Kudos.

Refraction is the optical effect that occurs when light passes from one medium into another. In this case from air to water.

THANX. I invented the word "Cabalaero" (c) to describe these creatures. I have posted several others and there are more on the way.

Man, one time I try to do something in the same way you do in this pic, my result is very, very
horrible.
You pic is great, none only because is real good, congratulations for the color.
But specially for the theme in the pic, they have a good expression, and looks very natural for me.

THANX.

The quality of the pencil is crucial. If Berol brand Prismacolors are unavailable perhaps you can try working with chalk pastels and oil pastels.

This work is essentially all pencil. The only acrylic paint applied creates the highlights. These are the ripple crests, the veins on the leaves and the lightest parts of the cabalaero.

This was the very first such picture in which I drew a fish. In the later ones I consulted photos of koi.

We work with different ways, but I have a little experience - tragic - with pastels, sanguinus and watercolor, today for me is my mechanic pencil, lots of then and my Photoshop, but we have a common point, reference, I use too, very much, today I will try to make a good project to a story mine, or at last study one exist and make something like that.
