Erich Von Daniken would love this photo. If this picture had been taken by a Mars rover nut jobs with loose screws all over the planet would be proclaiming it to be proof of intelligent life on the Red Planet.

It is in fact a set of natural landforms eroded out of mudstone in the Cretaceous Hell Creek Formation of Montana. The geometric shapes result from erosion along the intersection lines of joints and faults in a once continuous sheet of sedimentary rock. These small buttes range in size from that of trucks to semi trailers.

It is only an artifact of human perception that makes these things look as though they were artificial constructs.
