Description
More forays into ancient seas can be seen in my DA "Paleo & Sci Illo" gallery:lexlothor.deviantart.com/galleβ¦
Xiphactinus was a large Icthyodectid predatory fish from the Late Cretaceous. This example was probably obtained from the Smokey Hill Chalk in Kansas. It was obtained by the Hart Family of Seattle and donated to the Burke Museum at the University of Washington. This example is of moderate size (only about 4 meters long). It differs from most displayed specimens in that a portion of the skeleton is restored free of the matrix.

I really wish I knew who prepared and mounted this specimen.
