Well 3 hours isn't too bad for a good picture IMO. I can see where working on a larger scale would be easier though.

It really depends. Someitmes cramming too much detail into a small drawing might be more difficult, takes longer, than if working on a larger canvas.
This image was originally about 5000 pixles wide.
All together this took about 3 hours, when I originally intended to devote no more than 30 minutes.

'Beta one, this is charlie eight. request traval plan, over'
'charlie eight, fly three-five-five, consider pickup imminent.
respond?'
'accepted. beginning approach.'
this came into my head when i saw your picture. very vivid.

Wow. That looks fantastic. I'm loving the setting and the use of colors in this piece. Another thing that I'm liking is that it gives off feeling of war happening because of the design of the helicopters. Great work.

Woah, UH60s flying a Nam-style combat pattern! :00: But we were never supposed to see this unless we went to war with the Soviets! This looks too much like eastern Europe for comfort. Only complaint is the nose-contour of the forground bird, and the lack of a visible aircrew. Other than that, it's perfect, a real gorgeous painting.

Thanks! There is very little detail in this one. I didn't use a reference until half way through, by then I realized how far off I was and decided to quit.
It's my first Black Hawk drawing
Here's a full size crop:

wow thats huge! i see what you mean by the detail. i guess it looks sharp when shrunken down. that's pretty impressive that you attempted to paint a black hawk without a reference to start with. amazing!

lhs In reply to ens1011 [2004-06-14 05:13:57 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!
This was done in photoshop. It started off as a speed paint project for about 20 minutes. Then I put in more time than I wanted. Then I realize the proportions were off and I ran out of steam.
Oh well..
