Description Picture of a toy gun.

Edit:

Airsoft toys are catagorized as toys with the exception of a few states and other ones who are legistlating the laws to redefine Airsoft under the catagory of airguns. As an airgun, the blazing orange tip law actually does not apply, but the gun itself will be subjected to further restrictions.

So, in the rest of the US, the following guidelines apply:

Toy guns are required to have a blazing orange tip covering at least 1" of expose muzzle for transport on public roads, across state lines, as well as commercial sales.

Which means while on private properties, no orange tip is required.

Look-alike toy guns should never be played in a none-designated field.
Look-alike toy guns should never be brandished in public.
Look-alike toy guns should never be displayed in a location which is in view of the public, e.g. back yard, porch, or on a location where people can see through the windows.

Yes, but you should never, EVER, say it's a toy. It's a high velocity weapon of pain (and pleasure).

Cool! As I understood, only a few US units were issued this type of weapon. I heard these were briefly issued in the military around Europe right?

Thanks for looking!

I prefer the real deal But cool, nevertheless.

How much does something like that cost ya? I know some of those can cost a pretty penny or two...

lhs In reply to TehBrizon [2006-08-05 04:10:48 +0000 UTC]

$200 - MC51
$117 - PSG1 stock
$191 - RAS
$29 - MP5/G3 scope mount
$80 - Aimpoint w/ mount
Total:
$617 retail price.

Awhile back, I pieced these components together over several years and got a decent deal on it.

AR-50 $2999
1 bolt action .22, 4 semi-automatic - about $500
break-away single 12 gauge - $20 (extremely old - im almost afraid to play with it... but it's not as bad as my King .210 which broke in half randomly at the trigger body assembly, but that's ok, it was free)

and more

Only problem is that I can't carry them around randomly as i please

I think it was those weird firecap thingies i was thinking of that are so expensive. Some japanese companies produce replicas of various automatics that fire a special blank round. they're rediculously expensive, and used in lots of movies. along the lines of 600 dollars for a single MP-32 replica with only like a couple dosen reusable rounds (but you have to buy the blast cap crap which are about 20 dollars for 40 of them...

Tell me - whatcha do with airsoft guns? certainly not wait for Red Dawn to happen in real life

Air as they were originally intended are used in recreational sport which you shoot at other humans to simulate fire-fight.

Personally, I collect them for the sake of having 1:1 scale props, and occasionally let loose the 700 round per minute target/cockroach shooting fun.

As for the cap guns, they are rare indeed. Extremely fun to shoot! Definitely all about the light, sound and motion without the danger of getting punctured by a stray round. Plus, the noise is a lot milder than any real firearm.

A former associate used a nice M93R cap gun for one of our armature film project. Although the ejected shells appear to be intact ammo, the blurry effect of moving brass makes it impossible to tell. Even in post, as viewed the footage, they look every bit as good as actual ejected brass.

As for true replicas, no bbs no popping caps, they do entertain a certain demographic as well. That's a field I have never researched. so, I can't tell you too much.

IMO, it's far safer to play around with toys than to irresponsibly handling firearms.

Oh of course i never "play" with guns. hell no. i see someone jerkin around with a rifle i'll knock em flat and only give their crap back if they say sorry. nothing erks me more than to see someone disrespecting common sense safety rules in the use of firearms.

I wasn't aware people shot each other with airsofts... how do you judge hits in airsoft sporting matches, there's no immediate way to tell outside of the pain one might feel from it, especially if you're not the person being shot... also: isn't it harder to protect the face/ears and such from BB hits at ~300fps? I bet those airsofts sure are fun though... but these days, the cops might shoot you jsut for seeing it or something what with the crazy "security" the police are all adament to upkeep... don't know about you, but where im from the police are pretty paranoid, and for no real reason that i can ascertain.

That's why airsoft was developed, ironically in the US, and the Japanese elevated the technology we've come to know as the recreational combat shooting genre. A much welcomed alternative to paintball.

Hit calls are mostly on the honor system. Not to mention that the white bbs can be seen bouncing off your target. Players who refuse to recognize hits are often cast out of the game by administrators and are usually barred from the field.

The last I checked, field speed is around 300fps or less for standard weapons. Some fields have special category weapons that fire at 400fps+ and are not allowed to engage within 50' or more. Many photos point blank shot wounds have drifted around the web for the past decade. Full wrap around face protection used in paintball are great for airsoft. Often, people wear hoods that will reduce impact, helmets that eliminates pain all together.

Play only at designated fields. keep airsoft weapons properly red plugged & stowed. If law enforcement is encountered, Properly disclose the contents in your possession and ,often, it's good to have a print out of your local law regarding look-alike-weapons.

blazing orange tip is the understatement of the century...

airsoft in america got real lame after 2002, especially for pistola types like myself... rifles come with a black tip and an orange tip. but they damn near paint the entire slides of the pistols these days, really takes the fun out of sidearms.

nice rifle though. reminds me of the last custom gun i had, before it was decimated.

Sorry to hear that. It always sucks to loose a $300 equipment.

Current affairs of airsoft seems somewhat disapointing. Some of the coolest models I wish I can own are either long out of prodution, or still being developed.

Worst case, I can always take up sculpting and build my own 1:1 scale prop models. The is definitely satisfaction in that. The hard part would be getting a mech box in one of them...

I like the look of the gun, looks pretty real to me. You manage, as always, to keep that clean look.

What are those Airsoft toys? Are they like paintguns that look like real ones? Or something else?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lhs In reply to Camacha [2004-07-08 03:07:17 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

Airsoft toys are similar to paintball guns in the sense that they're recreational survival game tools.

These look closer to firearms, and fire none paint plastic 6mm bbs. Most electric powered ones, like the one in this photo, fire at full auto at around 600 to 800 rounds per minute depending on what kind of mechanical tune up has been performed.

Generally shooting at field legal speeds of 350-400fps, these things arn't the most powerful toys. higher speeds can be achieved with aftermarket parts and modifications. Each field would have their speed limit.

8mm BBs are an alternate calibre used bu only a few specialized models.

run a search for airsoft in google will yield many hits and history of the sport.
