I don't have any more shots with longer exposure. We were i na rush and the weather was horrible. There were no details in the sky at all.

Ever been somewhere and saw something and wished you had your camera with you. God.. I missed out on a great sunrise the other day. By the time I get to my camera it was over... I caught some sloppy seconds with SPUTNIk... u saw it. But that's not the first time this happens to me. I need to learn to sleep with my camera...

Not as frustrating as getting the perfect time and angle for a killer sunset, shot it, took it back and got a disc error, then the camera askes to reformat the card!
Fortunately, like you, I had a bit of leftovers about 5 minutes afterwords. You see, I was at my office where I was able to download the date asap. But the camera is simply glitchy as hell!

the thing I love most about this is that it appears not to be totally night yet. while all the wonderful lights are there, so is some of the detials of the roads, trees, buildings. really killer effect. great job

Your description can apply to what's in the DTF most of the time, even right now.
So, you've pretty much anwsered your own questions: This sort of things just happen. The result is determined by a weird balance between skill and popularity.

I chuck that up to personal taste.
I personally think I have a few decent pieces uploaded to DA, about 95% of my photoshop work I find just average. This way I don't have to worry about people stealing my best work. Besides, It's a learning experience when I upload disposable work.
Still, I don't like it when people steal anything.
As for the picture that I uploaded, I feel it was enjoyable and pretty. When it arouse this sort of reaction, good or bad, I feel it has gone that much further.

well, i've only been doing photography for 5 months so everything i do is average and crap, but some people seem to like it so thats why i'm here

I've been doing photography on and off all my life. Only in the past year have I switched from traditioinal film to digital, hince the lack of any impressive equipment.
Only about 30 actual pieces have been presented as formal photographs. Of those, only about 10 pieces have survived. The rest have been in my personal stash.
Though this is kind of irrelavent. But I thought I'd share too.

I'll keep that in mind.
Though the text is the last of my worries as it is a no nonesense label there to identify the piece because in other instances of presentation, there will be no description accompanying this image.
As a rule, I generally slap a address or ownership tag across the center of the image due to the frequent theft I have encountered in the past.
I am thinking of reinstigating the practice because I have noticed a lot more of unauthorized use on other peoples photos as well.

Just about everything can always be better. But reality and circumstances are kind of limiting. Arn't they?
This was a photo opportunity that was rare and expensive. It might take me a couple of years, and a supreior camera, to make this any better.
