Description
The Light Tank M24 is an American light tank used during the latter part of World War II and in post war conflicts including the Korean War and, with the French, in the War in Algeria and the First Indochina War. In British service it was given the service name Chaffee, after the United States Army General Adna R. Chaffee, Jr., who helped develop the use of tanks in the United States armed forces. While long removed from American and British service, it is still found in service as a light tank in third-world countries, along with other hardware from that era.
M24 Chaffee is a reconnaissance tank, which the Danish army received in 1953-54 as weapons help on the same way as the army got M4 Sherman, M10 Achilles, M41 Walker Bulldog and Centurion tank.
M24 was only in service for a few years since they from 1962 was replaced by the M41 Walker Bulldog. Unlike other tanks in the Danish service was M24 neither life renewed or upgraded. It was used by the Danish defense from 1953 to 1962 (1975). The display tank is under restoration.
