I just can't believe I have found the drawer of these comics on dA. Sadly I only own this issue feat. Jace... But reading through it I was really impressed! I have tried to do some Gears fanart myself and I can hardly understand how it is possible to do so many detailed pictures!

Without giving away too much info,did you create any characters for the gears comic? i know jim lee made 'alex' but i thought maybe you created someone/something yourself.Im looking forward to seeing more of your artwork in future issues and cant wait to see more alex.

If you dont mind me asking,did you hear his voice in the game before making him? Fans want him and alex to be added in the next game or in some new downloadable content.
Some guy on epic gears of war foum made a custom action figure of jace.I think he took a gears figure and painted him or something,it came out good.

I think the voice was added to the game after I designed him - as far as I know. He was written by Joshua Ortega, the writer of Gears 2 and the comic. I invented his look, for which there was no real brief, other than he was a young guy. So yeah, I think it was a late call to put him in Gears 2 as a nod to the comic and continuity.

He looks much older though, and broader in the nose here. In the strip his dad is white, his mother black - as we see in the flashbacks - so he has dark skin but more european features.
Not going to NY, but I'm going to SDCC in just over a week's time.

Glad u liked the jace figure.A friend of mine is trying to make a alex figure next.I have a question,without giving away too much info or breaking any rules,can u answer this?
In matchmaking,some guy claims that alex is actually alexis 'alex' harper,she was trying to save her brother jonathan ,got badly injured and turned into the badass in issue 9.
He 'claimed' to have read the beta/preview of the issue.I usually dont believe everything i hear in gears 2 multiplayer,but the story and characters does kinda tie together.Sigma and delta teamming up,finding bodies masacred and a city destroyed.I know you mentioned you cant give anything away till the issue is released,but can this be right? I do have doubts,but needed a expert answer.Can you help,if not,its no big deal,i ll wait a few weeks.I love the artwork so far,so i know i wont be disappointed.thanks.

Hey man. Nope, it's a genuine character. Jace doesn't appear in Gears 2, you you hear him talking to Markus on the com. Joshua Ortega, who wrote the second game, also writes the comic, and Jace is intended to be in the Gears 3 game...

He appears in the Hollow. When you first arrive, and you are running through? And those other pods drop in, and the Cogs run out, the guy comms in, says his name is Jace.

The guys who made the game loved it, and Jace is much smaller than Dom or Markus, so that's my excuse!

I've just heard that SO many times! I think the thing is in comics it's normal to exaggerate stuff - big boobs, bug muscles, and HUGE guns... I didn't realize, not being a gamer, that it was going to be something that was going to matter so much to fans of the game. Now I know! LOL!

and I know what you mean by the stereotypical comic appearances, you usually see that when its original to the comics, but when its based of something its best to get as much referance that you can!

Yeah, I'm learning... But even comics based on other stuff, like when Mike Golden did his Star Wars strip, or Jim Steranko did Outland, liberties are generally taken - otherwise you might as well just pose the 3D characters and render them doing what you want. Did you see Bizley's Halo stuff? Or Moebius' Halo? Nothing like the game at all. The artist has to have his voice, that's what makes it unique.
Tell you the truth though, I SUCK at hardware usually, and getting all the figures and everything to work together in a scene is no easy juggling act! Those guns are nuts on the detail! I'm getting there!
Also, you know how it is online - you type stuff, but it doesn't have the accompanying vocal that would make it clear I was only mock-offended... I hoped the 'LOL' would make that clear!
