I had a day to kill so I drew-up this... I can't remember the last time I drew a comic character for the hell of it! Must have tapped my inner fan-boy.

Lol, I love how even at 3 months of age Hammerstein didn't look that much different from now (except maybe he smiled alot more back then. :/)

Thanks! This ended up in 2000ad and I got commissioned to do a series of illustrations of all the ABC warriors. I think this is my fav though.

ABC warriors when it came over to the USA was my favorite. I started in the "Black Hole" part, finding about the earlier ones later.
Toss up between Hammerstein and Deadlock which I liked the most.

Well, remember his introduction in the black hole story?
He's programmed to be, at least, the traditional "Hero" or rather the ideas of a traditional hero. To find joy in a national anthem, a chest full of medals, a parade, brave acts defending a cause. To believe the god of the humans is on HIS side. Some say that makes him the worst of all...
And he was the unintended enemy of "Deadlock" the mystic Occult robot who hated his good, orderly and idealistic beliefs even though they ended up on the same side most of the time.
Also, save perhaps Ro-Jaws, he was the most "Human" of them, having later in the series flashbacks of being programmed so he could actually feel love and jealousy not by programming but by learning. That was when he was locked up by "Cognitive Dissonance" - "It's ok to kill humans in battle, but not in camps..." "We must love animals, then kill and eat them... But not children..."

Hi. It was done straight on the computer on my Cintiq tablet using Photoshop and layers of texture. I really just felt my way through it. There's no original art at all for this one.

Hammerstein is one of my fave 2000AD characters I loved the idea of a really ancient beat up old robot still fighting on into the future. You really caught that old beat up surface of a grisled robot war vet.
