Here's a detail from another page of my recent Judge Dredd story for issue 305 of the Judge Dredd megazine, which is out now. WAY too much detail for the printed version! This is Shaun Shcott (a thinly veiled Sean Connery) as the story is very much a Bond spoof in the spirit of Christmas!

Crazy details on this. Isn't there an easier way to do it then to fully paint a likeness of somebody. I think all you need to do is scan a real picture of someone then click on your mouse a few times an it instantly changes a pic into a painting.

Yeah, but that really WOULD be cheating. 
I think there's always an element more 'life' to a piece when it's worked up by the artist, and those filters are kind of standardized. You can always spot it. I'm not against using ref creatively with filters actually. It's the end result that counts. People get really hung up on that, and frankly life is too short!

absolutely fabulous, liam, but did rebellion have to get permission to use connery's likeness? i remember some actors never used to be keen on their image being used in comics

Thanks mate. Actually I never asked! It's a parody, so I'd hope they would take it in good spirits. Mad magazine always did that kind of thing back in the day. The story wouldn't work without the likenesses being spot-on...

Thanks man. It was a pen and ink drawing finished (heavily!) in photoshop, using my Cintiq tablet. Took AGES.

what tablet you used to make the drawing? take long?

I'm using the Cintiq. The Dredd pages are taking between one and three days to complete. Getting this likeness right took a LONG time though!
