Well i can only advise on colouring, but practice dude, when i started out i was at college and would paint for 4-14 hours a day lol... ok well the 14 hours kinda robbed me of a social life but yeah. Practice.
Study other artists, look at different styles of rendering, experiement with brushes (airbrushing is so old hat imo) and textures. Watch movies and tv shows and study there lighting, and colour palletes. A faves of mine are Firefly and Baraka amd Sin City
