Uhh I'm not really sure what to say about that other than I'm not comfortable when people do that and would appreciate it if you didn't do that ahah.;;
You might want to find someone else who's willing to let you do that or just create your own design, or get an adoptable.

Also I'd like to say that you can't just come up to an artist and tell them you'll be taking their character design for something or so. You need permission to do something like that, which isn't going to be given in this case.

I mostly still wanted to complement the design, she's very cute.

 But as far as the actual usage, like I mentioned there will be zero added content of any kind. Creating it would be no different then if someone redrew, for example, Hatsune Miku. There are so many examples of this, Toradora - Okami-san, any long, pink haired girl (for the most part), Deadpool - Deathstroke. Or even more common, fan arts. I guarantee better than 90% of any fanart was not given permission to be drawn. However none of these things I am doing. I'm simply using her as a quick refrence for a long, silver haired girl (and in this case) wearing such a skirt and top with long socks all in dark/black clothing. Technically speaking this can describe a marriott of OCs and Copyrighted characters in both media and written works alike. It just so happens that your character pictures best portray the meaning I'm trying to get across.

And I'm sorry to say but its both a sad truth that little can be done against it since no material is being reproduced AND that it would be also a sad world if we all just locked up all of our things so that not even the smallest detail could be used. Life as we know it would be gone, and surely your own character would have no place. I'm sure when you sat down and created her you were inspired by some other details either by a real person, another character, or an aspect of your life.

All of that said, I would rather rejoice in knowing that someone was actually kind enough to actually do the research into the art, track down who the actual owner is and what character name when to who in a vague picture that was found in the first few rows of a google search 'glomp anime' INSTEAD of replying negatively to someone willing to put their own time in, just to further complement your work and let you know exactly what they tend to do with it rather then just right clicking and saving, and being done with it.

However, I'd rather just leave this with Just keeping being awesome and continue on with such a great character. The universe(s?) that she is in seems especially interesting and I'd like to see and read more as time passes.

But back to our topic.
I guess you didn't exactly notice, but the way you sounded when you wrote your previous comment sounded very misleading.
And seeing a wall of text of a reply defending one's actions was the last thing a person expected haha.
It's not like I'm someone whos unaware that many characters out there can be similar, because it is a fact that it's hard to be unique or original, sometimes even impossible. Although I don't think pointing that out is the way to go about it, which makes it seem like you're trying to say (even if you didn't mean it) 'hey your character probably looks like a ton of others, it's no big deal if I do this.' It just sounds rather insulting.

To explain why I reacted the way I did (because of the way you worded yourself previously): I'm not sure if you're aware, but a lot of us smaller artists try our best to protect our things from being copied regardless, if we can, because they're pretty unknown. As for my character- her design has developed quite a lot over the years now, much different than what you saw, that's why I wouldn't like someone just taking the things you spent years developing. (and I'm not talking about "oh haha white haired girl + ponytail I'm totes the only one with that sort of character!!" it's more so the details which help make a character be recognizable.)
 I do know all artists deal with copycats, and I've had to deal with some myself. And I will say if someone wants to have a similar detail for their character, copying isn't the way to go about it. Try taking inspiration of it, making something different of the idea or detail, which ends up looking what you wanted AND different than who you were referencing. Sadly a lot of people are too lazy to do it, which is incredibly frustrating.

And don't get me wrong, I do appreciate you going to finding the owner a ton, which I do thank you for. And thank you for complimenting my character. And trust me, giving a negative reply wasn't something I really wanted to do but given the situation it's somewhat a standard reply you'd get from some artists. Especially those who had to deal with annoying things in the past.  I believe if you worded yourself better I would've reacted differently. Because it all sounded more like one trying to grab the whole design rather than being like 'oh yes, this character has the colors/basic idea of what I'm imagining!'

Although I do hope you understand where I'm coming from and what I mean when I say all this.
