WOW! Nice! This is so realistic! Can you tell me briefly on how to use different-different kinds of graphite pencils (2H, H, B - 8B)? Because I don't know the differences, and I only use 2B. My shading is bad

Thank you so much!
Sure. H pencils are known as 'hard' pencils and leave lighter marks on paper, while B pencils are 'soft' pencils and leave darker marks. In H pencils, the higher the number, the lighter the mark, while in B pencils the opposite is the case. Here's an excellent image I found which illustrates this: pencils.com/wp-content/uploads… . Hope it helps! As for how I use them (keep in mind that other artists may have different methods), I tend to work in layers, starting with H pencils and progressing to B pencils as I shade the darker areas. I took a look at your drawings and I don't think your shading is bad. You're on the right track; remember that practice and patience are key.

Wow! Thank you! I'll keep that in mind. And thank you so much for such an informative explanation! I didn't even know about that until you told me! In order to draw a realistic art, we must use different varieties(hardness) of pencils right?
Another thing that I wanted to know, is about color pencils. I've seen some amazing color pencil drawings by other people and I've got no idea at all how they did it. Did they use the similar technique as in pencils? Does color pencils have different hardness like, (H, B, 2B, etc) too?

You're welcome! I'm glad I could help. To answer your question about drawing realistic art... I'm afraid there isn't an easy answer to that. I can say that using the different hardness of pencils does help the process, but I think observational skills play a larger role. It's something that comes with time, and lots of practice.
The grading scale (H, B, 2B and so on) does not apply to colour pencils, but unfortunately that's all I know. Colour pencils are new territory for me as I'm just learning how to work with them. So, I think it'd be best for you to ask someone who is more experienced than I am when it comes to this medium.
