I never speak much of the characters of my first novel. The One Novel. That fat book I couldn’t get published because it was a bad economic situation for the industry/ I was a novel writer/ It was a saga/ The email went missing. Whatever. But someday it will come out, a publishet will say “yes” and the HBO will make an amazing show of my story. Dreaming is free.

Thank you so much! I hope too. For now, my boyfriend insist that I should have the 2nd volume finished before trying again. Perhaps that would convince the publishers of my persistence and that I am a reliable writer. This is a business after all U.U

Well, that sounds like a plan.
Maybe you don't need to write whole second volume but just part of it. So than editors can see that you're working on the second book already.

Thank you so, so much
OCs can really show the most vulnerable part of yourself, specially the ones you created when you were a teenager, because they tend to be more like yourself, even if then they evolve and aren't like you anymore.

Oh, Laerith! She can be pretty, though it often goes unnoticed because she looks like a zombie doll most of the time (her magic, anxiety and desire for vengeance truly consume her).
Thank you so much

Well, I should translate it all to English first. And though I'd love, LOVE, to share them anywhere, I'm afraid that would severe my chances with a publishing house. You know, they want exclusivity and I'm not ready to drop that bullet yet U.U

Oh, I feel ya! I'm also in the process of writing The One Novel.
Sadly not many people in my country like reading so it's really difficult to get published, since the interest towards books is not so much, in general. :/
Have you ever considered self publishing? I know I'm going to. It's not the same thing, but eh, what can you do.
I love my characters so much, I wonder what they'd want the most. Uhmmm... that's a good question to think about.
Your characters look lovely btw, I'd be happy to see more of them. <3
The two girls particularly stand out, in my opinion. :3

Ah, when the reading market is low it's like a slap on the face indeed U.U I already self-published a smutty romance novel that I wrote for the sake of laughter and cringe, and though the sales are nonexistent (It's a very specific genre and in Spanish), I'm very happy and proud of doing so, because... Look! There's my book, and I don't have to worry about the lacking sales because they're not going to remove it because of that. Also, in Amazon they've got a service called CreateSpace, where they print your book on demand, and the quality is really good.
So go for your dream, and you'll see that, after publishing the first, you start losing fear and want to write more books. It's like here in DeviantArt; at the beginning you're terrified and nobody notices you, but if you keep going on and on and never give up, no matter the silence, one day bam!! People start noticing you and the hardest part is behind you. And from then on, you just need to start delivering material and doing your best.
Thank you so much for your words. It's a good question to ask your characters, also what do they fear, or what's the kind of person they'd like to become. And my two girls... XDDD They couldn't pass unnoticed even if they tried! Their weirdness is too strong XD

try self publishing. If you had more success since then, leverage that. If you haven't, use Amazon or other self publishing platforms and get some copies out. If you have patreon you can distribute copies as rewards.
By the way, does the characters in your novel speak English or do they have their own language. Your calligraphy evokes a different feel then English. It almost feels like some other script being adapted to write English.

I already self-published a smutty/romance/comedy novel , though for now it's only in Spanish and the sales are... quite dead. Though the ones who have read it have loved it! Even non-romance fans. The problem is, once you self-publish, the publishing houses don't want your novel anymore because they can't have exclusivity, even if you withdraw it from the market for them. Such a pity, because it forces you to make a choice that could go very well or quite meh U.U
But you're right on every advice though! I've thought of some Kickstarted campaign for the Big One, with artbooks and many other goodies. It would be a big step and I'd need lots of help and sensible people around for advice and organization, but if I start it once I have the complete saga written, what could stop me?
They speak another language, it's a whole different, made up world; they live just in the frontier place of two countries and both their cultures and races (humans and shiras) are quite mixed. Every one in the picture is human and speaks in their tongue but the girl with the braid; she's a hybrid and speaks both languages. As a result, since the blonde one is her soul friend, she's learnt a bit of the other language too. I'm very excited that you noticed it

maybe if you publish small extracts on Deviantart, the demand for this book will increase and you'll be able to publish it because the editor will be sure you'll have readers...
(Yes, I just really want to read it and that's a crappy excuse )

It's not a bad idea, though many publisher houses demand exclusivity, and doing so could blow up my chances. It's a double-edged weapon, but I haven't discarded it yet The temptation is so big.

Sventine In reply to LiberLibelula [2016-04-20 13:39:59 +0000 UTC]

LiberLibelula In reply to Sventine [2016-04-25 08:03:42 +0000 UTC]
