Description
This is Medea, the sorceress princess who aided Jason on his quest for the Golden Fleece. All she wanted in return was his love. After the hero came home and became King, he decided he wanted a newer, younger wife. Medea, in a rage, sent the new bride a poisoned robe and then killed her own sons, the children that she had with Jason. When she was confronted about her crimes she summoned a chariot drawn by golden dragons and ascended into the sky.I wanted the background to look like an ancient mosaic and the painting to look like aged fresco.

Do you happen to have a tutorial, or know of a tutorial on how to do the glass in the mosaic?

I used the mosaic tool in a software called Painter X. It is a specialized filter I believe and should be available in later versions. It lets you paint individual tiles or tile a whole layer/selection.

Oh okay. I don't have Painter X but I can figure out a way to draw it in GIMP. Thank you!

Thank you! She's actually the cover model of an academic journal of Medea essays somewhere in Canada too.

beautiful. I love the effect with the background. I need to said, I think it was a picture, not a digital art.

I love the expression on her face. It's the "I'll teach you to dump me face,"
I love the mosaic, if i didn't know it was painted, i would swear it was real tile.
Great job all around, and good luck in the contest

Oh this isn't for the contest, I think Medea wouldn't qualify for it. I just have a deep love for Greek mythology and a large body of work playing with it.

I love the mosaic tool but haven't had success with it yet doing people so I like how you've solved that problem - by using the tiles for the background only. The fresco face works well with that kind of background. Well done.

Thank you, the mosaic tool is the single most frustrating thing I've ever played with in painter. It is finicky and difficult to control.

I just put up two of my mosaic pieces on my gallery. I really LOVE that tool... ok, the results of using the tool but the images took so long I haven't finished another in years. Maybe it's time I dive back in and this time I may borrow your hybrid concept of using a painted face and mosaic background

I really love the mosaic effect - it's so real! The fresco textures are effective as well. Her expression is great - she really, really looks angry

I like to think she's the ultimate scorned woman archetype. She certainly employed the scorched earth technique for revenge.
