She won't hesitate to chew out anyone if she thinks they deserve it, regardless of stature, physical or social. She's passionate, prideful, and what she lacks in physical height she makes up for in ego. Bautista and Luisa Cortez had moved to America after Luisa became pregnant, settling down in the city of Saint Hollow in preparation of raising a family. The move was strenuous both physically and emotionally, and after a taxing labor, the two found their daughter was stillborn. Disheartened and grief-wrought, it took quite some time for the both of them to recover--but their love for one another helped to rekindle their zeal and soon they were able to find their footing again. It wasn't until a year or so later that they tried again for a pregnancy--only to find that this child, too, was a stillbirth. Luisa was practically beside herself, and nearly inconsolable for many months as her husband watched her, heartbroken. Years passed, until, for the third time, Luisa was found to be pregnant. The couple, now weathered by multiple tragedies and fearing for the worst, took no chances. They were careful, doting over the unborn child, and constantly vigilant. The baby girl was born healthy, much to the parents' utmost relief.
Rosa was swapped by her fae mother with the human baby when she was only just born. The replica was nearly identical--aside from a pair of luminous amber eyes, and a spray of freckles along her face.

The fae child was unnatural, it cried not a tear, and it kept its eyes wide open, fixated curiously on the nursery around it. Thus he resigned himself to raising the child on his own as a human, and hiding from her any knowledge of her true nature. Rosa was reared in a normal household to a loving, if not overprotective, father. All magical or even superstitious paraphernalia was kept out of the house, and rather it was adorned with religious trinkets and items. Though her father had always emphasized a Catholic faith through her childhood, religion had never truly caught the girl's interest, and she viewed it in a fairly lackluster light.
Rosa grew up believing she was a human, and believes such to this day. Her precognitive episodes were diagnosed by her father to be a variation of epileptic seizures, and 'hallucinations', and he urged her not to speak of them. She learned to be somewhat ashamed of her strange 'gifts', trying her best to hide what she could.
On her 18th birthday Rosa inherited considerable responsibility of her father's restaurant, a small cafe down-town. The place is somewhat tired, lacking new appliances, though it possesses a certain homey charm to it, and incorporates their Hispanic roots in its aesthetic. It is here that Rosa has worked for two years, earning never quite enough to satisfy her--she always hungered for something more, something thrilling. The 'criminal' behavior, the seedy, underground lifestyle, it had always fascinated Rosa in ways she could never explain, or perhaps simply dared not to. When she was 19, after selling the majority of her savings for a pair of dual pistols, the girl held up a small bank and earned herself a little handful of cash. But it hadn't been the money that'd really made her mouth water, it was more the thrill of it, the sensation of injustice and all that came with it. Having wet her feet, she hungered for more, and to this day she infrequently robs stores and rich persons alike, fancying herself something of a bandit.

-Rosa wears one of her mother's rings upon a chain around her neck, given to her by her father upon reaching adolescence. The metal is cold iron, and thus burns her flesh. Her father thought it would perhaps smother some of the fae powers, fearing a growth in their strength with her coming of age. Her skin is scarred very lightly in some places due to direct contact with the thing.
