He was quite tired at this point of his search.
He is meant to look ghostly, tired and almost ill as he not only spend few days searching without a sleep and now just walked across sunken shore - through cold water and showered by sea waves from time to time. His lantern is almost dying, but Andy, being himself, has set a goal and nothing else matters.

The sorrow, the pain, all the emotion that this piece is rife with. Masterfully done especially with how stiff he is standing as if, as you describe, he himself is almost dead. Powerful piece indeed!
