Guess who finally played Batman: Arkham Asylum? The Riddler isn't really a villain in it, is he? He gives you riddles to solve and trophies to find, and once you do, he gives you stuff.
You hear that, Joker?
Maybe, just maybe if you tried that approach with Batman and were a bit nicer, maybe he'd give you that smile?
As it was, and I played the game, Joker would be taunting me about how he's going to kill everyone, and I'd be going:
"So, I got to go there, but first, there's a Riddler shiny thing! Gotta get the shiny thing! Maybe when I get it Riddler will call and tell me I'm a cheating idiot!"
I was rather disappointed that getting 100% of Riddler challenges didn't result to a tea party.
I have to go draw more fanart of Riddler. I like him when he's written well, and he is in Arkham Asylum, just the way I like him; clever amoral narcissistic jerk with a slight dark edge.

"Since also, if you don't see him during the game, then what happens to him at the end?"
When you solve all his challenges:

(Batman traced the signal)
"He doesn't seem to show up much in the Animated series (or at least not in the first season, which I'm currently making my way through)"
They didn't use him much. I read an interview where a writer (or something) of the show said they didn't want to use him much since when they did it would get sort of weird with the games he played in the virtual reality and whatnot.
Which really only says something about their lack of imagination and how to use the character.
There are only 3 episodes (I think) where he plays a major role.
"Riddler's reform" is the best of them, it gets more into him as a character and uses him better, not just as a guy who sets up challenges for Batman to defeat like he's a Dungeon Master.
(That characterisation makes him work very well as an opponent in a video-game, though)
"I like how he looks in the comic, obviously the Riddler normally looks very well dressed but he looks a bit manic which makes a change from how he normally is."
He has been like that quite a lot in the comics the last decade or so.
Although the characterisation can wildly shift depending on the writer.
The way I prefer him is with a manic side, but so that it's hidden most of the time.
"Being more of a marvellite, I'm not completely up to spec on the reboot. I'll probably have to do my best to avoid it."
Batman is pretty much the only DC comic I have real interest for, (not including Vertigo titles).

Riddler is much more of a villan in the sequel. He kidnaps people and holds them hostage.

So I've heard.
I have ordered Arkham City, can't wait to play it.
I don't have a problem with him being a villain, but I prefer it when he is more amoral than immoral. He wouldn't really go out of his way to harm people, but if achieving his goals required it, he wouldn't have any problem with it.
(And if they die because they fail his puzzles, well, that's just their own fault for being stupid)

Not as much as Spidey. I do like him though

He is easily my favourite DC superhero. (I'm not counting Vertigo-titles, like Swamp Thing or Constantine)
But I like his villains more than I really like him. Spidey might have Lizard and Ock, but Batman has the overall best rogues gallery.
