Description
I've never been good at drawing landscapes or architecture, which is the main reason most of my drawings don't have backgrounds. But I wanted to start trying to do more of that sort of thing, so here's a bit of practice.This is supposed to be the walls of Vomorel, the city Lord Hauldcrey rules over in my fantasy series. The architecture is based heavily on Baltic castles like Trakai and Malbork. Vomorel lies at a river fork amidst dense pine forests, so there aren't any good places to quarry stone; the most plentiful building material is clay, which means that most structures are made of brick. I imagine the roofs would have wood or slate shingles.
Let me know what you guys think about this drawing. I've never felt very confident about doing this sort of stuff, but if you guys think it's decent, I might try doing more.

Very nice sketchwork I really like it how well you did draw the city over all, I admit thinking this was rather a castle at first though heh. This could indeed be something you could try to finish one day perhaps even?

Thanks! Walled cities and big castles did tend to look rather similar from the outside oftentimes. I may come back to it later!

Hello:
That is a very good sketch, I like that entrance to a fortified city , I think it will allow you to practice backgrounds, especially because you say you don't do those much and will help keep your brain active for newer ideas
.
Keep it up!

I think it looks great! Seems very authentic ^^ (I too don't draw much landscapes or architecture But the practice should be good for all of us
)

Well, I guess that it is very accurate to what a city should look like in the middleages. Since they came up in the 10th century, they originally were of course not as big as we know them today, so the size here is appropriate. The buildings visible are the wall (a requirement for a city), a basilika (to say it's a big hall building, since I don't know it's purpose), and several tall buildings that can have different uses.

Very cool, you should also have a look at Marienwerder:
www.ordensland.de/Marienwerder…
But don´t call it Malbork, it´s Marienburg

I know Marienburg is its original name, but it's called Malbork nowadays, whether you like it or not.
