Description My custom that I.. actually designed from the ground up. I think it just seriously came to me. Naps are awesome like that? Plus when I design customs I always at least try to shoot for original type animals to base them from. Like this guy!

The Armo’Scute was created for the purpose of all terrain travel. While slow on its feet, the four-legged transport has the advantage of crawling over obstacles that would be impossible to pass by wheeled transports. It is only able to cross small bodies of water by emptying its load and rely on the air in its hollow shell to keep it afloat. It leaves the sea travel to the many other capable transports. On land, it walks on its tiptoes, and only lowers onto the entire bottom length of its feet when running or locking down to load Zoids into its shell.

When loading, the Scute will hunch down and set its Dewclaw Foot Locks into the ground to hold the Zoid steady. Up to four paired segments of its armor are able to fold down on either side and act as ramps up into the shell. From there, Zoids can be gathered into one of two Rotating Storage Units. These twin storage areas are uniquely designed to operate and individually from the rest of the Zoid’s shell and rotate separately along the inside of the Zoid’s bust or waist to remain level at all times. The cockpit also executes this design and keeps the pilot seat and controls level. This is crucial when the Scute travels by what it is most well known for: Rolling.

The Scute’s main technique is to curl into a ball and roll to its destination. It tucks its head, feet, and tail underneath its body, and then expands and appropriately curls the shell segments at the middle of its back to assume a rounded shape. Along the top of the entire shell are treads, not unlike those found on a common car tire… or tank. The Armo’Scute can achieve its top speed by rolling straight on this treaded backbone and going downhill. Naturally, this method is not very effective going uphill. When facing such inclines or for faster travel, the Scute can open its boosters set along the tops and sides of its shell. These boosters are set up all along the body and close temporarily as they near the ground as the Zoid rolls so it is always propelled forward and not shot upwards. If a pilot was really ambitious, they could mount blades at the indents along the side of its shell, but such additional weapons would hinder the Armo’Scute’s free range of movement when rolling.

The durable Zoid Magnite plates and seven individual Zoid Magnite armored segments that make up the Scute's hide are perfect for the beating the armor has to endure when the Scute is rolling. It is also useful when burrowing underground, and the helps the Scute dig along its path by shouldering rock out of the way. When faced with thick earth in front of it, the Scute will often fire its Impact Cannon to blast its way through.

The Armo’Scute’s digging abilities can be used to dig tunnels and create protective burrows during travel. The segments of its shell can condense into as little as three segments if allowed by the stored Zoids. This makes it easier to hide in an underground hole and takes up less space. The Scute has a poor radar system, but has little fear of suffering from a surprise attack. When shutting down to sleep, it can simply curl up into its protective ball.

In combat situations, the Armo’Scute has no need for an energy shield with its thick armor. It can also prove to be a powerful and offensive transport. To start, the opponent is given few options of actually damaging the Scute. Then the Scute’s weapons come into play. This transport, armed with its Metal Zi Digging Claws, can break into a furious attack and impale or slash into opposing Zoids. Its armored tail is very heavy and can act like a thick metal whip to snap Zoids into pieces. If the attacker remains out of reach, the Scute can use the many Beam Cannons hidden in its tail or Impact Cannot on its chin. If extremely aggravated, the Scute will curl into a ball and ram right into the enemy. Or squish them. Rollout style. Yes.

Weapon Notes:

-The Single Barreled Impact Cannon is a basic firing weapon like the Shock Cannon seen on many four-legged Zoids. Used for defense and blasting against rock.

-The 20mm Dual Beam Cannons are identical in design of those on the Seismosaurus' tail only toned down to a single barrel. Because of the Scute's poor turning ability on its feet and lack of a backward-facing weapon, these Beam Cannons were hidden in the tail in later produced units. It provides a powerful surprise attack that covers almost the entire area behind the Scute.

-The Armo Booster system (sorry for lack of a reference for these), are the nine small panels on either side of the Scute, seen on the three light tan armor segments. Each panel can flip out at up to a 90 degree angle and can be operated individually for great control over the Scute's movement. A single, high-powered booster is stored in each panel.

Side Note: Armo is a word I came up with, pretty much Armadillo condensed. And it sounds like armor. Scute is the Latin term for shield and used to describe the bony external plates or scales some animals have.

what a cool transporter!!! we need more of those
several aspects of its design aesthetic really fit right in with zoids.. the head is kind of shadowfoxy, the legs are a bit bearfightery, and the snout actually reminds me of that background boar zoid that never got made.. (if only we got flexible tails like that more often, that werent molded as one solid chunk)
the only thing is we don't usually get transports looking so.. animated... so alive.. that's typically kept for smaller ones. but no reason it has to be!

Oh wow, that's a great looking sketch! To be honest, I wish that Zoids had thought of this when they were still making the show! It would've been a nice addition.
