The Rainbow Power was only used once in the entire show, and since then it wasn't mentioned ever again. I also got the impression that there was no need for physical elements for the Elements of Harmony to work its magic.

Actually they transformed in her dream, as if RP is akin to a Super Saiyan transformation, in that it can be done whenever; so long as the Mane 6 are together.

I immediately checked the episode after reading your post and, of course, you're absolutely right, for some reason I forgot their transformation scene. Woops... :\
I agree with everything you said, RP = SSJ, they even grow longer manes.
In this page Twilight thought the power was temporary, and I also thought something like that after both the S4 finale and that Luna episode. Is it really permanent or is it like the Elements of Harmony and Celestia, who could no longer use them (was the reason ever explained?).
On a side note, if I were a writer I'd write an episode where their friendship cracks and they can't go RP until they'd restore their friendship. I love to mess with characters... ^^

Who knows? I suppose time will tell, since we haven't had a reason for the Mane 6 to use their Rainbow Power as of yet, and the times that Rainbow Power would have made a difference, the Mane 6 either weren't all together or incapacitated entirely in some shape or form...

At what point in the timeline is this Tirek from? Before being stopped by the royal sisters? After being stopped by the royal sisters? Before being stopped by the Mane 6? After being stopped by the Mane 6? He seemed familiar with Nightmare Moon, but that didn't happen until after he was imprisoned, and it was dealt with before he got back. And he was already beefy when he showed up in this story. Does he remember Twilight and the rest of the Mane 6?
