Funimation. Even though they censor blood and gore the way too much,they do a better job than 4Kids. Besides,the only show in 4Kids that I liked was TMNT. 4Kids dubs are mostly terrible. Yu-Gi-Oh came close but it was ruined due to ridiculous censorship. Ah and don't get me started on One Piece....

Agreed. Funimation at least tries to be close to the original. 4kids blatantly goes out of their way to Americanize and sanitize everything for no reason.

I know most people would say funimation but if you're an anime fan and 4kids was not in SOME WAY part of your childhood, you either haven't seen any of the well known kids anime, or you're a lierΒ

I will say this to 4kids credit-I actually have the Mew Mew Tokyo manga because of them...and actually, when they started, they were actually decent.
It was later on that they went really bizarre in their censorship and became obsessed with sanitizing and removing any references to Japan.

True, i won't deny their crazy censorship, but they were still my and many other's introduction to pokemon, so they deserve credit for things like that

I did start off with the anime, and it did have it's moments, even if most of the time the story wasn't so well done. Even early one we got things like 'Pokemon Scent-sation'...

Yeah...it was when he took over that they got bizarre in their censorship and started to remove things like guns and references to Japanese culture. He's even the reason why the giant tentacruel episode and the Pokemon Christmas special got banhammered.

Is this a trick question? Β Funimation, obviously. Β Granted, there are some 4kids-dubbed anime that range from mediocre to okay, but Funimation is better with dubs overall.

Well, in One Piece, they replaced the military's weapons with water pistols, not to mention when characters in Yu-gi-oh were supposed to be threatening people with guns, they made them use their fingers...

it's tough; on one hand you have pokemon and yugioh done brilliantly well. on the other hand, they did suck at a lot of dubs later on. with a few good one. FUNamation is knownΒ be very much the powerhouse they are. they also did a few terrible dubs.

yeah but that doesn't make them automatic winners in my book.Β they have more profressonally trained actors, and tend to use the same people a lot.Β 4kids did a few swipes fo veritiy.Β I guess I have to fgo with FUNi because they have a more good track recorded and rarely edit there stuff also have a personal relationship with toei.

At least Funimation doesn't try to remove any reference to Japan and make it American, replace weapons with fingers and water pistols, and change people's genders and races for no reason, and remove references and symbols of religion.

a lot of dub companies do that actually. FUNamation a few tmes and also changed refences for a more American audience as well. so tis not all cut and dry like your trying to make it. that happens a lot actually when adapting thigns mainly to fit the audience and because some refences don't work. i.e.Β like how Link in P is a ranch hand/farm keep. in Japan their really isn't anything that can be considered that. so the locazaiton team had to tweak a few things to fit it a bit.Β point is that's probably the most common thing that usually happens when translating oversea products.
