Description This is the same render as -> 'Sunset on Dusted' [link] I just used another method for tonemapping in Photomatix. Oddly most viewers find this one looking more real...

Some stars added in postwork, beside that no postwork. I'm happy to tell, that these image have won the 'TerraNuts-Terragen-July-Contest'; just due to the fact, that the real cracks over on TN didn't participate, I guess...

However - I'm really happy about anyway!

This does look very real, especially with the reddening at the horizon. The water is real calm too, and the reflections are realistic as well. I haven't used Photomatrix before; what's that like?

Much thanks for your comment and the fave as well Britta!
Photomatix is an app special for HDR-photography, but you can work on HDR-renders as well, as you can get from the SO-pack in TG^^

my pleasure Chris... great idea to put a rendering through the HDRI process!

LightDrop In reply to wb-skinner [2007-08-08 17:07:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh that's no problem; in Terragen in the SO-pack (a collection of plugins for TG) is an option where you get a *.HDR file directly besides the normal *.BMP. It doesn't take more time or such; only challenge is the tonemapping in Photomatix - a funny challenge. The idea and inspiration came by your awesome HDRi-shots. And you was absolutely right - Photomatix is much better then the work in Photoshop! Thanks for the advice John!
