you mean nonrepresentational, abstract is when something is distorted or simplified, but still identifiable. this isnt representational as far as i can tell, which makes it not abstract...

Well... I would call this abstract because it isn't something definable. I mean, you can't really tell what this is. For example, Georgia O'keefe took well known objects such as cattle skulls or desert flowers and "zoomed in" on a specific part of it, and then painted that. It was still that object, but it was abstract because the viewer didn't know what it was at first glance.

but thats the thing, abstract means you are still able to identify it... like a stick figure is an abstract person... and well even though its a picture of something real, but zoomed in, its still not definable, for it to be abstract you should be able to identify it, weather easily or not.

not necessarily. There is many different types of abstract; just cause you know about one doesn't mean all are like that.

well thats not actually true, like i said abstract means distorted or simplified, plus i go to an art school, i literally know this as a fact... the thing is that the term has been misused so much, people now call anything that looks "weird" abstract, but it might not be abstract at all...

Definition:
(noun) - Abstract art can be a painting or sculpture (including assemblage) that does not depict a person, place or thing in the natural world - even in an extremely distorted or exaggerated way. Therefore, the subject of the work is based on what you see: color, shapes, brushstrokes, size, scale and, in some cases, the process (see action painting). Abstract art began in 1911 with such works as Picture with a Circle (1911) by the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944).
