Apart from being outside, this is almost exactly a scene from a fanfic I wrote... heh...
I've often felt like Sonic and Rouge had fairly meshing personalities - they both want the freedom to go wherever and do whatever and not really settle down - and so that would result in them being together long enough to appreciate each other. Sonic's scared by Amy wanting to pin him down and Rouge is the opposite of that.

I'm reading that fanfic. I found it when looking for ShadAmy story and have never before imagined Sonic and Rouge as a couple and was rather surprised when they got together. But eventually they became my favourite couple in that story. Like you, I think they have something in common and rather oddly, they fit each other.
