i read Catch 22 [the book, not the band] this year in school & fell in love with iti even bought myself a copy haha
anyways, i've been wanting to make a Catch shirt for a while
& finally got around to it
sorry about the bad picture of the shirt, i'll probably put a better pic in later =]
fun fact:
"Yossarian Lives." was the promotion slogan for Catch 22
a bunch of people created stickers, pins, wrote it on walls, bathroom stalls, anywhere to start a buzz about the book and to get people asking questions
so i thought it'd be fun to keep that alive
the funny thing is that we don't actually know if yossarian lives or not at the endTT

I hated the fact that I learned about Catch-22 from the slogan "Yossarian Lives!" and that ruined the end of the novel because Yossarian lives.

Sorry to hear! It's still a really good book though, and the message of the book doesn't lie in whether he lives or dies, so I hope you do read (or did read) it.

Ah yes, I finished it and I loved it! However I think it was meaningful that he lived -- he was able to escape the system of absurd arbitrary cruelty and nonsense that the whole book was spent illustrating.

I wouldn't read it, it sounds like the kind it would just take away from the original. Did you silk screen it or just do iron on?

i painted it on with homemade stencils & acrylic paint. it's held up for many years though, so it's good.

Actually, we do know (: he lives to be at least 68, according to the novel Closing time, in which he, Milo Minderbinder and Chaplain Tappman are a few of the characters.

thanks! i made it by drawing the design, then creating a stencil for it out of freezer paper and finally, painting it on with regular acrylic paints. pretty basic set up, haha

BTW... Heller has a sequel to Catch (I haven't read it yet), but Yossarian does in fact live.

the book is a fav. of mine, i wish we read it in school
and btw have you read the sequal? "Closing Time" it's good, but nothing can beat the original.

It's good, the humor is just as dry, but the fun of catch-22 was the ending. The cliff hanger left much to the imagination, you didn't know if he was going to live or not. But when I found out there was a sequal I just had to know you know? I'm just a little too curious. Closing Time was good, but at the same time I hated it... I didn't want to know what happens, but yet I did. idk
