Hot damn, I haven’t posted anything Beyblade related in the past couple years, have I?
I was talking about Kyoya with my cousin recently and I felt more inspired to return to making my art related to Varuna’s story again for a bit. But instead of sticking to the Varuna and Ryuga (FrostfireShipping) thing again, I wanted to show Kyoya some love he should have gotten years ago as the first character in the series I fell for.
This scene is pretty much inspired by the ending of Kyoya’s episode with Tobio, after their battle and I can’t help but imagine Kyo and Varuu in this similar scene in the sunset. I decided to replace Varuu’s Metal Fusion outfit with a more dark and mature outfit because I never felt comfortable with how her old design had a red shirt and a red bandana. I might keep it with a shirt of a different color for her Metal Masters look. Her Metal Fusion look has more subtle purples to hint her association with the Dark Nebula, but not so much that she’s devoted to the DN’s cause. She has her usual boots, showing that despite her new look and attitude, traces of how she was still remain. Funny enough, Runi would be wearing this BEFORE joining the organization.

Following their battle during their journeys to reach Battle Bladers, Kyoya and Varuna share each other compliments of their skills and discuss what went off that led to the latter’s defeat. Their battle was the first in a while that actually had a sort of challenge between two strong bladers, displaying the strength between the roaring lion and the resilient tiger for the tournament’s crown. During this chat, Kyoya presses the question of whether or not she was present in the helicopter on the day Battle Bladers was announced. Unsure of what to say, she sighed with a nod, but reassured that she only wanted to battle strong bladers and her dream of exploring the world and battle with as many bladers as possible never changed. She only had good intentions and had no interest in the Dark Power the DN desired.

Varuna asks if they’ll see each other again for another match in the future, and Kyoya replies as he walks away “Heh… Maybe.” Varuna smiles before walking away the opposite direction, with Kyoya doing the same, but not without looking back at her with determined smirk.

It is unknown if they ever battled again since, but they do reunite after Metal Fury, but not for positive contexts. Regardless of distance, Kyoya remained supportive of her and hopes to become close to her, but not yet. Not yet, but will try now and then to give her encouragement and try to help her open up to be the outgoing, yet resilient Varuna again.

There was that one scene I sketched years ago inspired by John Legend’s “You and I” and a couple’s dance video where there was some masked party they danced in. Maybe I can make a “refreshed” version of it someday.
