Description
Alice Margatroid from Touhou ProjectSo I got a Surface Pro 4 because it seems like a super useful multi-functional piece of hardware for school.... but really what pushed it into "maybe buy" to "buy" is when I found out it had 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. 'Bout time I upgraded from my wacom splash anyways. In any case, now I can draw outside of my room!
So what went from a casual in-class sketch became this... monster. Basically drew this whenever I had free time. Even during team meetings.... uuh... well we were almost done anyways and they were too impressed to chastise me. Tehepero~
Sorry its not bondage though... I certainly couldn't do that in a public place. I should find some secluded studying area next time to draw bondage.
Also, man, fuck trees . And backgrounds.

Pretty neat. Nice action pose for Alice and her dolls.

Wow, this looks great! The background is really really well-done. It would take me days and days to even try to draw a background that nice.
I think Alice's left leg (from our perspective) looks a bit odd. The knee might be too low and the foot looks a little... Flat? Other than that she looks amazing though. Is her clothing a bit translucent? That's an interesting idea that I think came out really well.

Now that you mention it, it does seem off. I've no excuse. Thanks though!

No excuse necessary. It's a small blemish on a really fantastic picture.

To me, forest backgrounds seem like these kinda things you just have to Bob Ross, as I like to call it.
Bob Ross all the backgrounds.
Basically, just make them look sorta like what they are supposed to be, instead of doing the whole sketch/lineart/coloring process on 'em. Let the viewer fill in the gaps. Doing it that way actually makes drawing backgrounds somewhat fun sometimes.
Well... yannow, sometimes. =~='
I mean, it's just me anyway. And I suck at backgrounds, so there's that.
Honestly, Touhou characters always seem so nicely designed and special snowflake-ish, but I just don't know anything about any of them, even after being exposed to tons of Touhou content over the years. Prolly because it's all nothing but fan works on a japanese not-the-kind-of-game-I'd-ever-enjoy-playing. So I just avoid drawing any of them in general, just to make sure I don't accidentily offend anyone or horribly mess up lore/character personalities by doing so.
Btw., I'm not really any good at drawing profile views, but I still feel like mentioning that the chin-nose area needs to stand out way more in profile views. Think of it as a whole another limb being attached to the head, rather than it being part of the head's shape (as they essentially are, being attached via a joint and all). That's how I try to wrap my head around them at least.
EDIT: I just realized I'm a horrible person. I just threw this comment out there, not realizing it's nothing but negativity. So, just to clarify, your picture's not bad. =w=''
For one thing, I actually really enjoy your composition here, with the perspective you went for, how you scattered the lil' dolls across the view, gives it all a nice feel. The shading, of course, as you do, looks nice as well. Kinda came to expect that at this point. Still not sure how you pull off everything looking so alive by doing that, I guess I just don't quite see through your highlighting technique. And with me talking about the background a lot, I think you pulled that one off well in this one as well, despite how you were talking about how horrible backgrounds seem to work with you. Looks way better than what I tend to do when it comes to forests. I just like scattering bushes everywhere, subsequently defining the crap out of them, but not really giving it that "forest" feel. More like, someone's back garden. With your thing here, it looks more like actual forestry.
Mkay, now that that's all said and done, hopefully this comment is manageable again. <~<' Apologies for that.

Haha, well, I just slapped colors around to maybe make the shape of trees and leaves. It just turned out pretty bad a few times so I had to redo it.
Touhou characters are pretty... Flexible. There's lore around them, but really the fan base just does whatever it wants. Sometimes the personalities clash between the official personality and the one the fan base made and its mostly all right. You shouldn't worry about it if you do decide to draw them.
I'm really in it for the music (and subsequent fan made arrangements/remixes) and fighting games and less for the main line up of games though. I can't really handle the bullet hell myself
Thanks for the criticism on the profile view stuff; I see where you're coming from and I was slapping my head since I couldn't figure it out. The top right doll in particular looked hideous while I was drawing and I just gave up and hoped for the best!

Eh, the end result looks fine, so all's well in the end. =w=
Well, when it comes to drawing "fanart" of official characters, I feel like my work should pay respect to the original author, rather than just taking their characters on whatever type of adventures I like having them in. Main reason why I don't draw much fanart in the first place. There usually isn't much to draw in terms of that - especially if you draw fetish related things a lot. But it really doesn't help if you don't know what the original character is like in the first place. So... bweh. <_<'
The Touhou fighting games looked amazing last time I saw them. Seems incredibly fast paced, with them swooshing all over the place doing all those flips and stuff. And yeah, the music assortment of that series + fanworks is just flat out incredible.
Yeah, I know that feel. I'm pretty sure I haven't quite figured out how to do profile views either, but at least in some cases I know what to go for nowadays. Even worse when the character in question is in the process of shouting, meaning you have to take into account how their jaw moves and changes the overall shape of the head yet again. @_@'
Hope it helps though.

Aw, but I would love to see you draw a Touhou character some time! I think that would look really cute in your style.
And you know the games aren't the *only* Touhou media. There's also official manga, and it's really good. If you like manga and the Touhou character designs maybe give Forbidden Scrollery or Wild And Horned Hermit a try some time. Especially Forbidden Scrollery since it's from the POV of a new character so it might be a decent jumping on point since you aren't expected to know anything about her going in.

Alright, thanks for the hint. Prolly gonna look into those at some point then. :3
Well, I said this in some other post there, but I don't like drawing "fanart" that's disrespectful of the original work, the characters involved or the original artist's intentions. In a nutshell: No fetish works. Also, depicting the character doing something they usually wouldn't do should be a no-go, which is easy to do by accident, if you don't know the characters well enough already.
Kinda cuts down on possibilities a lot, doesn't it? <~<'
Sometimes I feel like not following that ruleset wouldn't really change much, with my pictures being barely more than a drip on a hot stone. But I dunnooooo~

Fair enough, although Touhou is kind of a special case, in that sense. It was created explicitly as a Doijin work, which basically means fan-created content is both intended and necessary. It's kind of a collaborative work between its creator and fans. Things are deliberately left a but vague to give people gaps to fill in.
Take Momiji, Rook's favorite character and frequent victim, for example. She BARELY appears anywhere in canon, has no dialogue and almost no canon personality, but she's very popular (a whopping 21st place out of 169 choices in 2016). Virtually all of that is thanks to fanon depictions of her that are technically not founded in the creator's intent at best and actively counter to them at worst.
That's not to say anything goes, the major characters do have robust canon personalities and there is an (often ignored) rule about not using the characters in outright pornography, but they're intended to belong to the fans to some degree. Almost as much or maybe even more than they belong to their creator, by design. I'm not one of those people who thinks ZUN, the creator of Touhou, is talentless and that all of Touhou's success comes from the fans, I think he's extraordinarily skilled and it's because of his touch that people are compelled to use these characters in their own works, but Touhou wouldn't be Touhou without a huge amount of influence from the fans.
That's not to say I don't understand your point or think it's invalid, I'm just trying to explain that Touhou is a special sort of franchise that doesn't really have a Western equivalent as far as I know. You shouldn't be intimidated by the vast canon, because as great as it is virtually all of the greatest and most well-loved fanworks tend to ignore huge chunks of it.

... huh.
Well, I mean that would most likely explain why I find it so difficult to figure those characters out. If they're mostly just undefined shells to be properly molded by a fanbase, there's really not much of an official characterization to speak of.
But yeah, thanks for that insight. =w=' I would not have expected any of that to be the case.
Still though, before I do anything Touhou related (if at all, I mean, it's still just me looking at the whole thing from afar pretty much), I'll probably look into it all a bit more. Yannow, beyond just looking at a few pretty pictures, videos and listening to the soundtrackseseses. But your input definetily pointed me in a nice direction there, so thank ye for that. =v=

Touhou is complicated. People ask me how to get into it and I genuinely don't really know. But it's a great fanbase and totally worth investing in IMO.
If you do check it out I hope you like it, and if you do like it I hope to see some fan art from you some day. Maybe bondagey or maybe vanilla.
At any rate, you're welcome. Thanks for listening to my nonsense.

Maybe. The library is quiet and nice but its suuuper popular as a studying area. The less populated areas are at the top floors... but then I gotta go up stairs ;-; . The prices to pay for seclusion...
