"I'm suppose to be the fastest..but I was too slow to save my buddy.."For a Sonic game, Sonic Lost World was pretty dark lol- XD
I mean: *spoilers* As far as you know: Tails, your best friend, is turned into a robot to kill you, you watch your arch rival fall to his death after he risked his life to save you, and Amy, Knuckles, and every single one of your friends are basically dead, along with the fact that the whole planet you've spent your whole life defending/saving is now dead aswell, leaving you utterly alone for once(it's all okay/saved in the end though but still). Not to mention some if the dialogue is pretty...well...
"As long as I can strangle a zeti, my hands are fine."
"I'll get fat from eating your black hearts"
"First you're contemplating genocide..."
"Just lay down and die."
Just to name a few.
I know that SEGA actually got quite a bit of attention after the game release for that very reason haha
It's not that dark considering Sonic fanfics/manmade art gets extremely tense, but for an actual game? XD
...and I loved it. <3 I honestly think the franchise needed some actual emotion in a game.
(Even though it's all okay and sunshine and rainbows at the end)

Lost World had a lot of potential to be really awesome, but it seemed to be a strange combination of wasted opportunities for awesome angsty moments, weird plot (or weird handling of decent plot), and not-very-sonic gameplay.
The way you've draw this scene makes it much more awesome than the game's portrayal of it. I really like it!

Yea, Sonic Lost World was pretty good. Some of the dialogue was rather cheesy and childlike, but the game had more emotion and darkness than the Sonic franchise has had in a long time. It stopped around SA2, and then it would come back sometimes later on with a few games and then it just stopped for a while and it felt like the whole game had the characters thrown in their just for money. Lost World was a break from that, I just
hope they will learn from this game and continue to make games like this.

I really hope they do the same thing haha >u< and I honestly thing that all the cheesy humor used in Lost World was to balance out the darker subjects and lines. Overall, I think it was pretty well balanced~

In all seriousness, though, I really wanted to see a fight against Tails in one of these games. If Sonic and Tails are all this franchise is going to focus on these days (even though there are far more interesting characters like Blaze that really deserve more of the spotlight), at least do something interesting with them. But the reactions from Sonic and the ending and that scene with that fucking toothpick...would it be logical to say Lost World has a really bad plot?

I think what made this moment darker was that the game before that point was bright and colourful, and filled with jokey dialogue. It's quite the heavy contrast, and it works well.
Unlike something like Adventure 2, Shadow, or 06, which were near constant "Life is nothing but death and crime, and the rage of a beast!" the lighter hearted moments helped sell the darker moments.
I believe that less is more when it comes to dark moments in a Sonic game, and this is proof of it.
