Waiting for a special occasion to post this I guess~

  Last week I graduated from high school, something that I honestly thought I may not ever do between severe health issues and struggles with the school. I kept going despite my body's willingness to stay home and prolong my illnesses, and fought with all I could to ensure I would walk across the stage alongside my friends and classmates.
  I made this piece, titled "The Treasure" way back in November, when some of my credits were still in question due to my health. Since creating this piece, it has gone on to win me placement in the top 300 (1%) of all submissions in the Ohio Govenors Youth Art Show and has also earned me a spot in the top 1% of all submissions for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2018; one of the biggest contests for high school artists.
  Because of this piece, I have received national recognition for my work, as well as a large sum of scholarship money to help me pursue my dream.
  Because of this piece, I grew ambitious to finish high school strong and not only graduate alongside my friends, but graduate with honors and distinction.
  Because of this piece I can say that I am attending my dream school this fall.
  Art saved my life-It has created who I am and always will be. By putting my faith and trust in God throughout this unpredictable journey, I was able to strive and He never once failed me. He kept telling me to create, inspire, and chase my dreams, and despite my reluctancy on some days, I pushed through it and saw the light at the end of my tunnel. In my failing health, it was impossible to stand most days-but I never put down the pencil, and each day the light grew.
  Please don't ever give up on your goals and dreams. Don't let anyone, not even friends, counselors, or school boards, tell you that your dream isn't worth it. You can and will create beautiful things. With God, everything can be done, and with a pencil, anything can be created. All it takes is a little ambition and faith-and maybe a deer or two.
  Thank you so much for all the support over these past few years💕 I really needed it.

The original story behind this piece: This was made as part of a portfolio series titled Humans vs Nature, in which all the pieces showed some way that humans directly affect the natural world around us. This drawing in particular displays the idea of trophy hunting and how we sometimes very animals as nothing more than "treasures" or physical objects instead of the living being they were created to be.
