What was I thinking perusing a career in environmental studies! It was my final term and exams were kicking my rear then on top of it all there were major projects that had to be done before the year was over I have never been so stressed in all my life! I only had one final project to complete and I would be free and clear. It was a fairly simple project just collecting various rock and mineral samples, naming them and putting it all together in a nice display, just a lot of samples were needed but I knew just the perfect place to get them.

Just a few miles out of town off the beaten path was an old rock quarry it closed down many years ago due to the poor economy and was completely abandoned. I quickly packed all my instruments and books into my backpack and headed out, it was a nice drive fresh cool air, beautiful colors in the trees if it were not for project that needed to be done this would have been the perfect day.

I arrived at the quarry and quickly unpacked my bag with my equipment needed gather up samples and identify them, jotting down field notes as I did so. This place was kind of eerie all the old equipment left abandoned and rusted almost made you forgot about the busy world around you I wish I had brought my camera for photos. I worked as fast as I could collecting samples and using my books to identify them, it took almost 3 hours by the end of the process my wrists and eyes were tired but there was no time to waste I still had exams to prepare for.

I quickly packed my things and samples into my bag and threw it over my shoulder and started to walk towards where I left my car but out of the corner of my sight something caught my eye in the middle of the gravel pit. I began to walk closer to it eying it up not sure what it was, it looked like some sort of large gem, “Oh boy this would be perfect for my collection no one else would have something like this” I chuckled to myself. The only odd thing was it seemed to glow as I got closer… was it some sort of space rock?
