Description

OKay now, on to business. This picture explains just about EVERYTHING. And why did I use Blaze to ask the question? Because she has a pretty much straightforward look to it, but not wanting to hurt anyone by saying "Everyone is getting pissed off by it" Or anything like tha-

Lucilia: IT'S TOUGH LOVE, DAMN IT!

And.. That could be true, but still, love hurt sometimes, as some people have found out. But seriously, this is a question that I want to ask people. And I MIGHT do more, I might, but still, this is a serious question. And for those who are wondering, about the OCxSEGAcharacter, I'm talking about stuff like BlazexOC or SonicxOC. Not stuff like Tails and a cute little relationship with an OC, or Shadow and an OC. Or even Espio, heck, he needs some love too. It's just about the people who obviously have a partner, like Knuckles(for you KnuxXRouge fans) or Sonic..So, yeah, you can answer, or you don't have to, it's your choice. And people who DON'T do this, please don't flame the people who do. It's a decistion they make, yeah, it might piss some people off, but it's just something I wanted to ask about.

Also, I wanted to make the writing sorta fir her talking style, but making sure everyone understood it as well. If you can't, or need a translator or something, here's what she's saying:

"Alright, male OCs of DeviantART. Mind if I ask ya a question?
K, you know when you're created and everything, and your personality is starting to be made up, then your clothes and sutch. Then the lovelifes come in.
This is the question.
Why is it that you date either ME or some other original Sonic girl that rightfully belongs to SEGA? And it's not just us girls, it's the guys too. You see how the already taken guys are havin their girlfriends replaced by another OC fan character. Even Silver had it done to him. And I've acually seen Sonic with a few fan character paired up with him. Why is that? Now, I'm not really meaning to offend anyone or try to get them to change their minds about their pairings, because obviuosly they're not gonna. But really, I'm TRULY asking you, why do you do it? Why do you pair them up with SEGA Sonic characters instead of making someone up, who could be alot stronger, faster, and even alot prettier or more awesome looking? All I would like is a simple answer, and no flaming please.

And please, don't flame and go on and on about pairings in the Sonic world. We're not talking about SonAmy or SonSally or Shadonic or anything like that, it's just with OCs. Thanks for listening."

Sooo... Yeah, please tell me what you think about the question and the drawing and stuff. OH, and tell me if I did anything wrong with the grammar and such, because I don't like messing up on grammar and spelling, it annoys me.

Enjoy! And remember, comments please!

P.S. If anyone wants me to hide their comment for any particular reason, just tell me, and I'll get right on that

It's a good question, one that deserves a bit of thought.

I know that she's not talking to me, because I personally don't believe in pairing my own fan characters with anyone.Β  I also don't like the idea of pairing fan characters with official characters -- the officials already have each other.

But yes, I've seen a number of fans do this, and though I don't agree with the practice, I don't let it bother me.Β  People will do what they want, as Blaze pointed out.Β  My guess is that by pairing their own creations with a canon character, there's an opportunity to explore how a canon character would interact with someone that's not in the canon lineup.Β  Plus, they might think that it gives their pairing more prominence or legitimacy.Β  I can only speculate.

Yeah I'm thinking why so many people pair up their ocs with Shadow. And the artists even make their ocs look like Shadow.Β

It may be ridiculous and awkward when people do this but maybe the person feels closer to the sonic character when they have an oc x sonic character pairing. Heck I'll admit it, I even thought about doing an oc x scourge(don't judge I knew that was impossible since scourge is ruling freaking anti moebius for goodness sake and it would be hard for the story to get good with Fionna as his gf still and how the hell would my character even come in in the story? I could make and switch a lot of the original story up but it would then be ridiculous and pointless to continue. So I understand your question perfectly and now I do agree cuz I just draw sonic oc's but mite draw pairings... Idk but good question

I wonder that same darn question. Like... I don't have my OC's paired up with anybody, though I do have them aquatinted to a few of the officials. But that's beyond the point, the point is Sega/Archie (yeah i include Archie) decides who's with who, and if somebody were to just screw with the relationship status it's like uh... Hello? What happened to this chick/guy?

I only use a few OC/Canon Character pairings in my Sonic stories and have only one piece of fanart for it. I actually hate it when people do it ... it just fit the story, because the subplots include Charmy crushing on Cream who is crushing on his brother, and Marine and this Irish transfer student called Aishling crushing on eachother (Yes, Marine is a lesbian in my story. That subplot was dedicated to my friend, who came out to us)

But most of the time, I just think it's a way for Sonic/Shadow/Silver fangirls to have a relationship with the character they fangirl over. Which I find weird because I am a total Tails fangirl ... but I've never ... done ... that.

Oh Yes, I agree personally and I like how you added emotion for Blaze's expression
Why does everyone keep saying Blaze is a Mary-sue? I honestly don't think so in my opinion
I don't see Blaze as a 'kind' character and in general, I see her as "cool" like Sonic
Blaze is her own character She is not a God-dang Mary-Sue! Just saying

I...never really thought about it.I guess it's because it's a way to practice making realistic characters. I'm a staunch supporter of quite a few pairings that are void of OCs.

xD This was adorable. Blaze's face is great.

Now for my comment...

I don't understand guy OCs hooking up with Amy. Or Rouge, really. Blaze, I don't know too much about, sooo...

Anyways. Yes, you could make a much cooler female than Amy or Rouge and pair them up with your OC. However, some of them end up being Mary Sue/Gary Stu, or one is trying to avoid that so they just end up pairing their guy with Amy.

Personally, what bothers me more is when people create characters that are EXACTLY like the other characters. But we're all entitled to our opinions. :3

Thank you for being so polite about your opinion! Not many people care to do that, it seems.

OC's generally have "wish fullfilment fantasy" designs to them. Blaze has one herself.

She's like that perfect female who somebody creates to pair with the overly perfect Sonic

bitchwolf [2010-11-12 20:15:28 +0000 UTC]

I may already have commented on this once, but in brief:
I think they want to explore ideas they have about relationships and what they want out of them (what their dream girlfriend /boyfriend would be like, how they'd want to meet, etc). It may be an image they get in their heads that they want to see better, so they draw it. As a kid, I did something like that. And a bit of wish fulfillment for many, no doubt - a sort of cartoon version of crushing on a pop star. In short: for fun.

For those that are like me, the couple dynamics between one of their characters and a canon one seem interesting, and /or the idea makes for a good story for some other reason. In other words, the same reason we pair up the canons in certain ways. It's got more to do with what makes for an interesting concept (and often, emotional comfort /challenge, depending on your mood) than what follows the canon exactly. In short? For fun.

On a side note: why would being stronger, faster, and prettier make someone a better character? Talents and "amazingness" is not why I like any of the canon characters; I'm growing increasingly tired of the "superhero" Sonic they're presenting these days. It's personal quirks and a mix of strengths and weaknesses that make me like them and write /draw them.

Spelling: sutch > such, lovelifes > lovelives

As for the picture: Blaze's face is a bit more emotionally open than it is in-game (probably because you made her eyes rounder) and her stance is a bit more like Sonic or Amy (more relaxed; Blaze usually is quite straight-backed and "proper" in her movements), but her body build is about right. I like the style variation on her "hair" and tail, because it makes her fur look thick and bushy, even if her ponytail seems to be coming out partly outside the hairband/clip on her head.

Blaze is every bit as much a Canon-sue as Sonic is and that's a LOT.

greenkitsune In reply to bitchwolf [2010-11-25 20:57:58 +0000 UTC]

Sonic is always looked at in awe by everyone he meets and almost NEVER fails at everything he does. Blaze is the same story. Those two get glory and superpowers handed to them on a regular basis with virtually no character flaws that make them unlikable.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bitchwolf In reply to greenkitsune [2010-11-25 23:05:03 +0000 UTC]

He does have a bit of a Goku syndrome going on lately. I think he's gone a bit too goody-two-shoes in the games lately. But that leaves more fun for me in fan fiction. Deconstructing Sonic, Shadow and other characters and make them into more believable persons. It depends a lot on what you see in them.
Blaze in Sonic Rush was stubborn, a loner, and unwilling to cooperate. Is she nice to everyone and happy to listen and be part of a team these days?
You also have to count in what they do. Blaze was saddled by the duty of guarding the Sol Emeralds as a child, right? And wasn't admired for her fire powers either; the story I read was that she was actually an outcast for it. I do know the games don't go into these things, which is wasting story potential. But as I said, that leaves something for me to do

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

greenkitsune In reply to bitchwolf [2010-11-26 02:34:49 +0000 UTC]

That's the funny thing. Blaze is also a rip-off of Knuckles. You can tell she's a Mary-sue because she is constantly treated with credibility while Knuckles always gets dis-respected.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bitchwolf In reply to greenkitsune [2010-11-26 02:47:07 +0000 UTC]

I'd rather say Knuckles was horribly Flanderized from his original personality, but that's me. More a matter of making Knuckles comic relief than making Blaze shine. Could be both, though.

greenkitsune In reply to bitchwolf [2010-11-26 04:14:50 +0000 UTC]

Well, then, you have a few options!
A. Write a letter to Sega with tips on how to better write them all.
B. Write a fan fiction where you fix the mistakes.
C. Write your own original story with your own original characters, and avoid making the same mistakes they did.
Good luck!

i think it's because the sega character's are so original, and most people make a really good fancharacter, and the rest of the fancharacters they make look the same in some way. it's because blaze or sonic or amy are so uniqe. just my opinion. btw, i've never paired my fan character with a sega, and don't plan to. i made him a girlfriend, who died.
