James tried to save his last surviving family (Helen and Maggie) from Barton since he return, there are the only darkness after he came late to save them. He shot Barton for revenge but only saw the corpses which he sorrowed. That ways made Hawk Moth have give him an second chance by put Akuma butterfly into his Defender D9 for akumatize him.

And Hawk Moth will tell him to become the Iron Seeker and bring him the Ladybug Miraculous
