Woody smiles. "And so... you are the sceriff, eh?"

"So it seems." She said turning her backs.

"Isn't it weird? We got what we wanted." Woody said smiling.

"Yeah. But the difference is that I done it without leaving anybody hind." She said cynic looking at him.

"Jessie, I..."

She smiles. Then paused and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to come out that way. After all, you're a citizen like everyone else. It wouldn't be fair, in my position, be hard feeling with anyone."

"A citizen... like everyone else?" Woody asked as if he doesn't hear better.

"Do you think that you deserve a special treatment only because you're a sceriff? Oh, no. So..." Jessie changed her tone suddenly and slowly approached to him. "Next time..." Jessie whispered. Woody looked intimidated at her. Then his heart begins to race faster at every her step. She rests her fingers on his chest, playing with the button on his shirt. Woody swallowed. "... Don't touch my stuff!" She pulled down his hat and turned away.
Woody fixed his hat on head embarassed. "Jessie! This isn't mature behaviour!"

"Oh! Do you want to bring us the sacred teachings from the city? Please, englithten us!" She yelled.

"Just because you're left alone, it doesn't means you can take it out on me."

Jessie raised her eyebrow. "Alone?" She maked a bitter smile. "You don't even know what it means. You don't know what I've been through." said Jessie quite audibly.

"If you tell me it..." Woody objected to it.

"Why would I tell you?! Do you think that popping up out of nowhere could confer my respect?!"

"You could start don't fighting me, it might be a good place to start."

"I don't want to start nothing, with you." She said growling.

Now they staring them, face to face, just inches from each other. Both furrowed their brow and the eyes filled of disregard.

"Fine." He said.

"Fine." She concluded to have the final say.

ITA:

Woody rise. “E così… sei lo sceriffo, eh?”
“Così pare.” rispose lei secca voltandogli le spalle
“Non è strano? Entrambi siamo diventati… ciò che volevamo.” disse lui sorridendo.
“Già. Solo che io ci sono riuscita senza abbandonare nessuno.” rispose lei cinica voltandosi verso di lui.
“Jessie, io…”
Lei rise. Fece una pausa e un grosso respiro. “Mi dispiace, scusa. Non era mia intenzione rivolgermi in questo modo. In fondo, sei un cittadino come tutti gli altri e non sarebbe corretto nella mia posizione avere risentimenti con nessuno.”
“Un cittadino… come tutti gli altri?” chiese lui come se non avesse sentito bene.
“Credi forse che meriti un trattamento speciale solo perché sei uno sceriffo? Oh, no signore. Quindi…” Jessie cambiò tono improvvisamente. E si avvicinò a lui lentamente. “La prossima volta…” sussurrò. Woody la guardava dapprima intimorito, poi cominciò a sentire il cuore battere sempre più veloce ad ogni passo lento di lei. Lei si appoggiò al suo petto con le dita e giocando col bottone della camicia. Woody deglutì. “...Evita di toccare le mie carte!” e gli abbassò il cappello sulla testa, voltandosi di scatto e allontanandosi.
Woody si sistemò il cappello imbarazzato. “Jessie! Non è un comportamento maturo, il tuo!”
“Oh, vuoi portarci i sacri insegnamenti dalla grande città?! Ti prego, illuminaci!” gridò lei.
“Solo perchè sei rimasta sola non significa che puoi prendertela con me!”
Jessie alzò le sopracciglia. “Sola, dici…?” Jessie rise amara. “Tu non sai nemmeno cosa significa. Non hai idea di quello che ho passato…” mormorò.
“Magari se me ne parlassi!” obiettò lui.
“E perchè dovrei farlo? Credi davvero che spuntare dal nulla dopo anni ti conferisca la mia stima?”
“Potresti cominciare a non urlarmi addosso, sarebbe un buon inizio.”
“Io non voglio cominciare niente con te...” disse lei ringhiando e avvicinandosi nuovamente a lui.

Adesso si fissavano, viso contro viso, a pochi centimetri l’uno dall’altra. Le sopracciglia aggrottate, gli occhi inaspriti di disprezzo.
“Bene…” disse lui.
“Bene.” concluse lei per avere l’ultima parola.
