One of my main goals with this one was to get some good practice painting skin tones beyond the pale/peachy variety, but I also wanted to give the Zorn palette a try.The Zorn palette is a limited color palette traditionally including four colors: titanium white, ivory black, vermillion, and yellow ochre. Many people prefer using cadmium red instead of vermillion, and I also ended up using some about halfway through.
Overall, I really enjoyed the result--which was surprising, because a lot of painters are adamant about using little to no true black paint in a portrait--and I think the painting came out really well!
My favorite parts are her nose and her box braids (they were SO fun to paint). What do you think?
