Never really made sense to me that Ron's family wouldn't have told him about the Sorting Hat. Then again, the whole pre-hat scene wouldn't have been as funny.

So true. As the youngest of 7 children, I found that I was savvy to a lot of things in life at a much earlier age because of what I learned from my siblings, you'd think Ron would be the same. Plus you'd think something like the sorting hat would be common knowledge among the wizard folk.
