For the "Adventure" contest. Didn't see the contest until the last minute but I just couldn't resist! Unfortunately the entry is kinda rushed...My idea was that Zuko became Mr. Completely-All-Work-And-No-Play after becoming Firelord, so Toph goes and drags him out of the palace. They go search for Ursa, and Toph finally gets the life-changing adventure she never got with him in the original series. In this piece, they're chilling out, taking a little breather from fighting enemies and whatnot. I would have loved to do a series of illustrations, but alas, not enough time.
Decided to experiment with new techniques and practice more landscapes. So this is part digital and part traditional. Was trying to go for a more traditional look and feel. Boy, that was really hard. *_*

oh this is very sweet! I absolutely adore this style of painting/lineart. The only thing is, is that since you didn't outline their skin or the flowers in black, it looks a little bit inconsistent compared with the rest. But I can also see how choosing not to outline it makes it lighter, so I guess it's just a matter of taste! The clothes you made for them are very pretty as well, and Toph's hair is very flow-y

Oh, you brought up a lot of good points. Personally I don't like outlining faces in black because I find that it looks harsh. However I usually use a semi-dark brown for the skin outline because it seems to be the right middle ground for me. But in the rush of things I hadn't realized that part of the outline had turned out so light! Argh, now I really want to darken the lines up a bit, but I won't be able to fix it until sometime later...
There was a lot more detail I wanted to add - stuff like shading and patterns in their clothing for one. I really wanted to do a dragon design on Zuko's clothes. ;_;
