Description
Jenny in her bedroom, listening to blue beats. It was fun to fill up the space with the junk of her life. She never has money, so her television is secondhand from a friend. (Lucky for her LOST is on a basic channel.) Her laptop (an iBook G4, natch) was a present from her momma, and the headphones she swiped from an old boyfriend who had aspirations of becoming a sound mixer. Her fondest memory of him is the day he accidentally knocked out one of his front teeth and she took a bunch of goofy Polaroids of him. He could always make her laugh, but he just wasn't the one.
She's been feeling sort of grumpy and blue lately. Ennui, is the word for it. She can't get her mojo going and it's making her moody and sorry for herself. Her boyfriend Jude kind of doesn't know how he's supposed to handle it, but because he's a gentleman and completely in love with her, he just gives her her space. One of the letters on her bureau is from him.
She'll come around once she washes her hair and gets hungry for pizza. It's no fun to eat pizza alone. Plus Jude can really snazz up a pizza. Goat cheese, tomatoes, crumbled up sausage and some good spices and shit that he won't reveal to her. A man's got to have some aces to play.
What music do you put on when you feel like you need some cave time?

I don't know what made me ambitious enough to do that kind of perspective. It's hard! But the result is fun. I have to practice more.
Yay for Beatles! Hey, everybody's got something to hide, except for me and my monkey.

And if there's no sun, I look at a website with images of happy naked girls, that's sure gonna lift my spirits :-P

I listen to music very rarely, and only if I'm in a good mood. Then it gives me energy. When I'm sad or angry or whatever, I don't want to add more "noise" to the uproar in my head, and I certainly don't want to put myself more down by listening to melancholy music and depressive lyrics. Wallowing in sadness appears to be a girl thing to me, none of my male friends are depressive like many of my female friends often are. (I think it's no accident that you chose your characters as you did, with Jude being more able to live than Jenny.) And it's certainly not "cave time" for me -- I need to get out and move and then relax. The best thing is to take a long, lonely walk in the warm sun, and then sit at the river or lake and touch the stones at the shore. Happiness is sure to come back

Everybody handles their blues differently. I definitely don't think wallowing is a girl thing; I know plenty of experienced male wallowers. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by Jude being "more able to live"? If anything, it'd be the other way around. Jude's got himself some issues.
Oh man, I can't imagine a day without music. I can't imagine not wanting music in my ears. I think we're on two different planets, friend.

Yeah, while I wrote what I wrote I thought that maybe the type of girl I'm friends with and the type of boy I'm friends with depends on my selection, so my view of what is typically male or typically female is not very representative but rather a reflection of who I am. And thinking a bit about this I have to admit that I feel drawn to melancholy girls while melancholy boys simply drive me nuts and I avoid them. Guess I have the nurse syndrome (wanting to make the girls happy with my love), though that as definitely changed after my last relationship with a mentally ill woman. Now girls being moody turns me off quickly, but I still have a lot of female friends left from that time (though they are thinning out rapidly, since I don't call them back as often as I used to ...).
Ah well, basically I just like your art, and since me staring at it silently doesn't make you happy, I try to think of some feedback to return some of the brain tickling you provided me, and just writing "this is awesome" seems to poor to me. But:
This is awesome!
Come and visit my planet some time.

Ahh, you're a saver. You would relate to Jude so much, and to his creator.
I feel like all the best and sweetest men I've ever known are savers in their hearts. Maybe it's a natural factor of chivalry?
It still makes me happy when people silently enjoy my art, but I especially like when people share a little of themselves with me. You're a nice fella.

I actually really love the lamps. Wish I had those. There's this atmosphere to the drawing and I get the feeling it's the lamps. Because they look like the sort who would give nice, soft, spreading light.
And I love her figure. Like I could stare for hours.
Mmm.. cavemusic?
I think when it's a bad-mood-time then usually it would be some AlternativeRock. They know how to get the lyrics out just right. not once i've been talking back to the song, when it fits my life. Like it the song goes "There's nothing in this heart left for you" - I reply "no. i think there is. Not much though, and not love. But there is something."
Hhh.
But if it's a good-mood-time then it'll probably be some indie pop bands or russian blues\jazz.
Well. It always goes down to lyrics , I guess.

I think you're right, and I agree -- I love the diffused light that paper lamps give off. Reminds me of summer nights.
Russian blues sounds too cool to be real. Would you be able to link some songs for me?

I love the Russian language.
I've never heard of Zemfira (or many other Russian singers/bands for that matter) but I like her. Her music is so mellow and peaceful [:

I usually put on some Portishead, Greg Weeks, Beirut, or just anything Tom Waits. Mostly Tom Waits.

As always, your line-work is immaculate and your chosen pose so expressive. I love the perspective on this, as well as the background; it's simple and clean and says a lot about Jenny (as does the wonderful information in your comments).
The lighting is very beautiful, and I especially like the wrist and hand that's touching her head, as well as the curve of her torso. Absolutely stellar.
When I need some cave-time I usually put on A Perfect Circle's "The Thirteenth Step", anything by Placebo or Ratatat, Shearwater's "Palo Santo" or The Romanov's "...and the moon was hungry".
