Description Jenny in her bedroom, listening to blue beats.

It was fun to fill up the space with the junk of her life. She never has money, so her television is secondhand from a friend. (Lucky for her LOST is on a basic channel.) Her laptop (an iBook G4, natch) was a present from her momma, and the headphones she swiped from an old boyfriend who had aspirations of becoming a sound mixer. Her fondest memory of him is the day he accidentally knocked out one of his front teeth and she took a bunch of goofy Polaroids of him. He could always make her laugh, but he just wasn't the one.

She's been feeling sort of grumpy and blue lately. Ennui, is the word for it. She can't get her mojo going and it's making her moody and sorry for herself. Her boyfriend Jude kind of doesn't know how he's supposed to handle it, but because he's a gentleman and completely in love with her, he just gives her her space. One of the letters on her bureau is from him.

She'll come around once she washes her hair and gets hungry for pizza. It's no fun to eat pizza alone. Plus Jude can really snazz up a pizza. Goat cheese, tomatoes, crumbled up sausage and some good spices and shit that he won't reveal to her. A man's got to have some aces to play.

The colouring really reflects her mood- she looks to be stuck in her past rememberings.

Its a fragile but striking image full of feeling.

My cave music? - tends to be thought provoking stuff on the quiet side - I tend not to have a music type but some of the quieter foo figter stuff, Some my chemical romance, Show tunes, - Stuff I have listened to today (totally need to be in my own space not at work) was extrodinary girl - green day, tears of a dragon - bruce Dickenson, Shake -Kirstin Hersh, my rollercoaster, sleep, looselips - Kimya Dawson.

In a dull mood I will sometimes listen to music that makes me smile Shine - Take That, trash music, Everlong - Foo Fighters

Gotta listen to Russian Blues thats just cool!

I love your jenny pictures - I just do. There's something so thoughtful and human about them. Like slowly watching someone life unfold before you're eyes in sepia, and quiet expressive music.

I love you're use of line in this picture, the curves and the shape, it feels so real and three dimensional. It's beautiful.

As for cave-time, which I am currently enjoying, it depends heavily on why I'm in the cave.

I really love the tone of this, especially the soft glow from the lamps and her laptop, it really adds to the atmosphere. And I can't stop staring at how well drawn her anatomy is, at first glance I thought the position would be extremely uncomfortable, until I realised that I actually sit/lie in a similar position myself quite regularly. I also love seeing all the little peices of her life around her (and reading your description of them) it makes the character feel that much more real.

During my own cave time I usually listen to The Doors and HIM. They always seem to do the trick

I was worried that she'd look too contorted, but I love twisting her up.

Asides from the drawing itself, which you 've received enough comments to pretty much encompass whatever i would say, I would like to comment on the narrative you had set up. going through the elements of this characters life grounds them, and we can relate to these things even if we didn't have a chance to experience them ourselves. its these little touches in the drawing and the description that can draw a person in. even reading the bit about the mac, its there in plain sight for me to see but when I read about it I go and look for t again, and explore it and go "oh yeah, it is a mac" and try and find more things in the picture from what you've described and more importantly what you haven't.

I just thinks its great when people put these little idiosyncrasies and character development in a image and it makes yo want to know more.

Illustration wise you've already been told how great it is so i don't need to go into that. being said, the magic started to work for me with your comments in the Artists comments box. Its a character development that I've found lacking in a mainstream sense that has this whole heart warming fuzzy feeling thing cos it shows the character in their down time when they aint doing the characterful things that characters do if that makes any sense

so yeah, total win on this one

Thank you for this really lovely comment. I appreciate getting heavy feedback like this, and I'm glad you dig the drawing.

I know, I like when artists fill up a space and you get to voyeuristically explore it. And you're right, I think too many artists don't write any artist comments -- for their own reasons, but I love when artists share their experience in a piece, or tell you about it.

Superb job with the lighting. I just love how you add light to area rather than shadows.

For that kind of mood its definitely going to be a Cat Stevens and Andrea Boccelli night. Maybe add in a little Sarah Brightman "In Mandarin's Orchid Garden"

The light rather than shadow? Is mostly out of laziness. It's easier in PS, for me. But it does look kind of cool.

Ooh, I love this. It's so, "my time, back off," which everyone needs to do at some point. And that lighting from the monitor is splendid.

My "cave time" music? Lately, I've really been into Lucia Micarelli's experimental violin stuff. Her first album was standard easy listening fare, but the second was this ambient flow that half the time didn't even really have so much melody as emotion. It's really brilliant. Tiesto's chill-out stuff gets the job done as well.

Thank you for saying that! I know what you mean, but oddly, I never feel that confident when I draw. And I almost never have a plan, I just start going from point A, you know? So it's a triumph whenever it looks confident.

This looks like something I would do. Just lie in front of my television or sit in front of my computer and ponder what's wrong with me. I've been in similar situations, trying to figure out where my circuits got crossed. Music does help, but the kind of music I would listen to would depend on my mood. Once when I was feeling particularly pissed off my cousin and wouldn't tell her why, she suggested I listen to Hanson. While I like Hanson, I wasn't in a mood for that to "cheer" me up. Something nonsensical, something that didn't demand my attention. I also ponder a lot in total silence, but that might just be me.

I do love that she's got a drink in her hand. And sometimes, cave time is what it takes to deal with yourself. If anyone knows that, I do.

Obviously, I've been going through some self-centered cave time recently, and all the people in my life have been so cool to me. Makes it awful hard to mope around. ;D

Cave time? Hmmm. If I'm chilling out I'll put on some Dead Can Dance. If I need to let off steam I'll put on some LOUD Dresden Dolls and dance around the flat by myself, like a madwoman.
