Description
Jenny in her bedroom, listening to blue beats. It was fun to fill up the space with the junk of her life. She never has money, so her television is secondhand from a friend. (Lucky for her LOST is on a basic channel.) Her laptop (an iBook G4, natch) was a present from her momma, and the headphones she swiped from an old boyfriend who had aspirations of becoming a sound mixer. Her fondest memory of him is the day he accidentally knocked out one of his front teeth and she took a bunch of goofy Polaroids of him. He could always make her laugh, but he just wasn't the one.
She's been feeling sort of grumpy and blue lately. Ennui, is the word for it. She can't get her mojo going and it's making her moody and sorry for herself. Her boyfriend Jude kind of doesn't know how he's supposed to handle it, but because he's a gentleman and completely in love with her, he just gives her her space. One of the letters on her bureau is from him.
She'll come around once she washes her hair and gets hungry for pizza. It's no fun to eat pizza alone. Plus Jude can really snazz up a pizza. Goat cheese, tomatoes, crumbled up sausage and some good spices and shit that he won't reveal to her. A man's got to have some aces to play.

I totally agree. Sometimes you want to really get down and wallow in it. (I think you have to have been heartbroken to really appreciate sad music. Am I way off?)

It does tend to be the ones you love who hurt you the most ("you" in general, grammatically incorrect terms. )

There's nothing like hanging around with no shirt in your room when you're alone. When I'm working on something that requires me to think I usually listen to something ambient like the All Saints compilation by David Bowie, if I'm just drawing then Beard of Stars by Tyrannosaurus Rex.

*heh* Our house is like a bow of windows glued together, so naked's not an option most of the time. But I bet it's fun.

The description of what's going on with this pic really drew me in. All the little details really show how long you spent working on this.
I really like it.

Funny thing is, I started this drawing months ago and just couldn't figure out what to do with her right hand. My funky mood said she should be alone. ;D

You know what? I fully agree with you. I get so friggin' tired of exploitative drawings sometimes (even though I'm guilty of a few myself), and I really like to see art of naked people that feels natural and comfortable. I'm glad this one works for you!

Simplistic, but full of raw emotion. Love how you rendered the lighting from the computer on her skin.
Usually when I need cave time, I play Annie Lennox or Steely Dan. Yes, I'm incredibly lame.

Aw, Annie Lennox isn't lame. The Eurythmics' "Savage" always hits the spot.

This is beautiful. It looks like the way I lounge as well, only I tend to leave off the panties in the comfort of home.
I like to watch vintage cartoons when I'm in this sort of funk. Or listen to Bjork.

Lately, I've turned to cartoons, too. That and stupid monster-hunting shows on hulu.
I wish I had the body confidence to lay around naked. I think Jenny needs a little bitty pot belly...

Wow, this is kind of mind-blowing in an exceedingly understated way. Does that even make sense? No. No it does not, but I'm going to say it anyways. She feels so real I almost don't want to look at her because I don't want to interrupt her quiet time.
I love your drawings of Jenny [not that everything else you do isn't fabbity-fab] - they really seem to stretch themselves off the page and go swinging their hips right into your mind.
Cave music... tribal chants, of course! Nah, I'm feeling the Belle and Sebastian, Bjork and Sufjan Stevens. Maybe a little Bert Jansch if the mood strikes.

Aw, thank you! ^_^ That's a heck of a compliment. Jenny's an amalgamation of a lot of amazing girls I know (she gets all her rotten parts from me), so she's pretty real to me, too.

I like your style--especially how you make certain things glow, like the Chinese lanterns, and her torso reflecting the light from the laptop. Is it all on brown paper, and if so, how did you make the white glowing areas?

does some gorgeous stuff with white and color on brown board.

Wonderful picture. I just love the feel of it.
Hmm, music I listen to. It depends on the genre I'm into at the moment. Right now it's classic rock so I've been listening to this one song called Laugh, I Nearly Died, by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Other than that I tend to listen to some Staind, Lifehouse, Etta James, Within Temptation, Evenescence. There are specific songs but I'm not on my computer so I can't get the names.

I love the whole ambiance of the picture... it's some simple shading but it does wonders.
As for the cavetime, I usually find myself listening to Urlich Schnauss. That music either manages to cheer me up or make me feel sad - it's emotional in any case.
