Most photography of flowers is focused on evoking a sense of place or a mood precipitated by the presence of flowers. But rarely is the actual beauty of the flower itself, in or out of context, presented as well as in this piece, and in your other flower photos. You well capture the ubiquitous yet miraculous slight variation in the texture and curve and folds and color of a flowerβs bloom that distinguishes it from, and raises it above, its cousin vegetations which we casually eat or tread upon indifferently. Your photo reminds us that there are some inexplicable aesthetic absolutes that simply are, and need no other meaning or justification. A wonderful picture. Truly proof that the whole world resides in the petals of a flower. (Whitman would approve.)

Thank you so much. You don't know how much your very thoughtful comment means to me! Flowers (and all things in nature, really) have such an innate beauty - I love seeking that beauty out and capturing some essense of it on film. Thank you again and again for such kind, lovely words! You made my day! Honestly, rarely do I receive such a thoughtful, detailed comment. I really, really appreciate it. And I'm happy Whitman would approve.

Oh my goodness, Janni! I've been meaning to write you for days. I just started school YES I am, but I had some serious problems with my bank - I'll be writing you either tonight or tomorrow and telling you all about it! Right now I'm only online quickly to check messages. I'm planning on coming at the end of September, and I'm not staying real long because I can only take one week off of school. And in that time I need to work in a visit to my father, too - maybe you would like to join me? We could fly to Germany and spend one night with my relatives? ONLY if you're comfortable, or if that sounds fun. If you would rather not, I'll visit my dad first then come to Finland.
I'll e-mail you really soon! I've been so busy, it's unbelievable.

That is so beautiful. It captures the depth of the flower very well. You're quite good at finding beauty in simplicity and nature. I love those pictures the best.

Thank you so much, and that means a lot to me, as I dedicate much of my time to discovering the small things that are usually overlooked - I'm happy, very pleased, that you could see some of that effort here.

I too enjoy seeing details that are overlooked. Sometimes, those little details of beauty can add to form perfection.
