Sure is a different take on protagonists, especially given the reputations of reptilians and arthropods. Most protagonist animals tend to be mammals and birds.

Really hard to say what to keep as base forms. Either animals or humans, or humans that transform into animals and get use to them, or animals who transform into humans and get used to these forms so much they keep it as the base form. Either way, they are all good.

Honestly, it's mix and match. Some (snake and white cat) are really cute as animals and some just melt my heart as humans (turtle). And the small girl with the silver ponytail works brilliantly either way!
