Description I drew this some time ago, from a photo of Merry (yeah, I'm one of those draw-from-a-photo people). Instead of scanning it I just took a picture and the camera added it's own kind of gradient. The drawing actually goes down past his waist, but I'm still trying to get a good picture of that. This is pretty close to its actual size and was done with pencil.

And I just have to add that Merry is my favorite hobbit, because he is awesome.

Merry was created by JRR Tolkien, as we all know.

EDIT: I finally uploaded the full, scanned version. Doesn't it look so much better? Oh yes.

Thanks! You gotta love Pippin too. I've often thought (very hypothetically) of naming two cats Merry and Pippin. This will probably never happen but it's a lovely idea!

Yet another stunning portrait! I love the light in this one--from behind and above...the look on his face, and the pipe in his lips adds to the contemplative "feel"--just wonderful! Amazing texturing on the coat, and in the hair...just wow!!

Thanks This is my favorite drawing that I've ever done so I'm happy other people like it too. I love drawing the costumes in LOTR...one of these days I need to draw Arwen or Galadriel and try to replicate their more floaty, feminine clothes.

Thanks! It took ages, but it was worth it. As for drawing realistically, it just takes practice so keep at it!
