Those of you who're familiar with my artwork know how obsessed I am with this guy (*SHUDDUP DAS!*) and I'm not saying who, since I can think of a few of my Devwatchers who haven't seen this far into the series and I don't wanna wreck it for them as to who that is...
Anyhow, this pic was just eating at me to sketch last summer....Yes, folks, LAST SUMMER. I've been working on this thing for about 6 months... *ehehe*
This pic is based on a scene from ep 34, and honestly...That ep made me cry. It really did. And NOTHING makes me cry. "Titanic" didn't make me cry. (Of course, most of that was because I did --and still do-- think Leo is the biggest weenie in the country, but...
Whatever.)Anyhow, I did base the BG on a screencap, and I know my BGs are horrible (gimme a break, I'm a foreground artist!! Years of fancels have shaped my artwork into being more character-based than BGs of landscapes and such. M'yep.)
Likewise, to help myself improve, I'm going to periodically work on a massive CG project, like this one and my "Gift of the Nile " pic! (Go see that one, folks. I did that one over a year and a half ago and it's so horrible compared to this one that it makes me laugh....
Still, I made a huge jump in my Photoshop quality after that one, so it was worth it! )And if you're wondering how much time and effort I put into this one, it was WELL over 50 hours! And detail, you may ask? The "Ultimate Shield", there, has cuticles on his claws....
Sorry 'bout the ugly watermark, too, but I worked my butt off on this one, and I don't want anyone to swipe my pic... -.-

this is AMAZING. I've seen some great renditions of this scene, but this is by far the best. Their poses are perfect, you've nailed the action in the scene. I love the subtle white "swipe lines" there, they're not too intrusive but they add to it all.
The CGing is amazing. That background must've taken ages, look at those leaves on the trees! Amazing amazing amazing, instant

I have to admit, I'm seriously proud of this one. (Despite the fact that I could sit here and tear the whole thing apart by critique. XD) I'm a huge Greed fangirl, and that scene --whole episode, really-- left a huge impact on me. ^^ I'm not sure if it was the beautiful choreography of the fight scene, the animation overall, or the heartwrenching monologue that Greed gave at the end, but I knew that I had to do something for the episode. ^^

And actually, the leaves were a piece of cake!
The swipe lines though, were HORRENDOUS. The pic was mostly done by the time I did those, and it was done at about 500dpi, I think. So....using a 300pixel-diameter smudge tool at 500dpi on a 400megabyte file is a BAD IDEA.
(matter of fact, I'm waiting on the smudge tool right now, while I'm answering my DA messages.

I know! As horrible as the outcome was (I'm a Greed fan), the fight itself was amazing! The animation was so beautiful, and the dialogue--....just....WOW.

I KNOW!! I've only been able to watch that episode 3 times! It's SO DEPRESSING!! I start crying whenever I watch it!
(AND, what makes things worse, my 2nd fave character --Dorochet-- ALSO got killed in that episode too! *sobs even worse*)

I actually cried WORSE over Greed's death than I did over Hughes'... (yeah, I know, that sounds kinda weird, since Greed was a semi-villain.
(Oddly enough, Envy WAS my fave, until he killed Hughes. Then Greed showed up just in time to take over. XD I still like Envy though, just not as much.)

Figured I'd start off with that, and an apology. u.u; We'll call it this: you take six months to make, I take six months to comment, yes? 8D
So.
First, allow me to give you a ginormous THUMBS UP on the perfection and awesomeness that are the poses. Yes.
Good lord woman, it would have taken me a good year just to shade these characters. X_x; You have patience. And, like, talent; Greed looks awesome.
I envy your highlights. *_* (Yes I said Envy, stfu.) Everything isn't just night-shaded, it's moonlit, and it's gorgeous. There being so many windows, there are different light casts coming from several places, and you've got them all covered.
The expressions. Ra. Perfect. Greed's face is awesome, and Ed's "Holy shit--!" is, like I said, perfect.
*I* think your background is awesome. But then, I rarely bother, so any I'd come up with would be quite likely to suck... -.-;; But anyway. You paid real attention to detail and lighting even in the background (shiny lamps ^_^), and I love what you did to the floor!
Damn, your attention to detail! Ed's watch, Greed's markings, Greed's cuticles, of course ^^ (and his nails look way shinier than the last time I saw this!), Ed's tattered sleeve (which I only just now noticed O.o), and I know I see a cowboy boot. XD
Movement. All of Ed's... flappy stuff... flaps according to the motion, and matches the rest of the movement upon him! Hair, clothes, watch chain, you've covered it all. ^^ His pants leg even seems to be rippled slightly according to his motion, rather than being just "there". And, having seen an earlier version, I'm quite glad you added more motion lines above Greed's hand. The fact that it was a slash and not a reach was almost indeterminable in the earlier version you showed me, but now, it's obvious without being cartoony. ...You know what I mean.
I still am in awe at the lighting. XD
I can't decide if Greed's teeth scare me more in this form or in his normal form. Heh.
And, I may not be a Greed fangirl, but I don't dislike the guy (just your rabid obsession with him XD), so I admit openly that I, too cried during this episode. T_T A lot. Not as much as during the... last time Hughes made a new appearance in the timeline... but still, I cried more than I had real reason for. It was just... so moving. Because Ed didn't want to do what happened, and he wasn't even really an enemy... not really... Damn you Lin, I'm sniffling! TT_TT

Glad ya like the shading so much too! :3 I used a royal CRAPLOAD of layers on this thing so I could keep the shading straight. I think this was the first pic that even passed the "600-meg file size" mark once... o.o; It's a wonder my harddrive isn't nuked. x.x;
YES!!! First person to notice (er, mention, at least) the BOOT!! 
And, God, you know what pissed me off so bad about Ed's automail? I could've done the 'chrome' in, like, 30 seconds with the damn Gradient Tool, but NOOOOoooooo, I spent 2 DAMN DAYS doing it by hand. ><; Oh well. It was good airbrush practice. -.-; (Seriously. I've got a little book down here at my desk of airbrush textures/materials techniques. ^^ I mean, it's for REAL airbrushes, but it kinda works with Photoshop too...
I actually found out later that I got the wall-lamp-things styled wrong.
Anyhow, glad ya like how Ed's clothes turned out too! (..."flappy stuff"...?

His hand was fun though. ^^ *semi-sarcasm* I would make one sweep with my tablet pen using the "blur" tool and got to sit there for 10 minutes waiting for it to take effect. -.-; (Super-huge file size = a nice, long wait)
I know you're gonna think I'm crazy (you probably won't be surprised though), but I actually cried MORE on this ep than I did on the Hughes one. o.o (not much more, though.) You HAVE seen ep 50 though, right? When "Hughes" comes back? "I'd still be at home with my wife and adorable daughter if it weren't for you..." OMG, that was CRUEL... X_x;;
But no kidding!! He was so sweet at the end! That helpless, innocent look on his face as he was telling Ed what to do... That's probably what got to me the most... v.v I heard from someone that he was probably the least evil of all of the Sin characters, and I noticed that he was the only one who we never see him actually kill --or seriously try to kill-- anyone. I actually had a big rant-theory in one of my first replies on this pic about how I think he never intended to kill Ed, but wanted to toughen him up for when he was gonna have to finally face the other Homunculii...
(And I JUST KNEW you liked him! ....a little, at least. ^.^; )

And if you're curious at all, I've got another big CG in the works , this time of human-ish Greed, and the time spent on it has already surpassed this one. x.x; Not nearly as depressing and creepy as this one either (actually, you'll probably debate that "creepy" part against me-- his sharky teeth are showing in the new one. X3) It's at 516-megs already, and I've still gotta do his vest-fuzz and finish his hair! But his expression combined with the bright purple eye color I gave him in it just make me MELT...
He's got his sunglasses sitting on top of his head though. o.o Makes him look like a tourist, for some odd reason. ._o;
OH MY GOD. Going back to my "Lin's-too-cheap-to-get-a-subscription-so-she-can-do-a-REAL-poll" journal, I just got my poster of this pic today!
