ANYWAY.
has bugging the snot out of me to submit this thing to DA ever since I started it. XD
(Yes, Byakuya has been bugging me. XD *lolzICONS*)
When I started this one, I hadn't done a fancel in FOREVER. I was starting to complain that I'd missed making them, and by the gods of chance, I scored a huge set of gorgeous Bleach copy-layouts off of eBay. Included in the batch were a bunch of the Ichigo/Byakuya fight, some great ones of Yoruichi, and THIS WORSHIP-WORTHY MIRACLE OF ANIMATION BEAUTY.

It was destiny.
Oh, yes.

Sketches of Ukitake and/or Shunsui with his/their dual-swords are next-to-impossible to find, and even though mine is a gorgeous studio-made photocopy and wasn't actually hand-drawn, I still treasure it. :3
Obviously, I was DETERMINED to make an EPIIIIIIIIIIC fancel of it as soon as I got it. XD
(....although, yes, Shunsui's pink coat nearly killed me. ._. )
Though, being a copy of a VERY rough layout sketch was something I'd never worked with before-- I ended up free-handing a lot of things, and if you notice the screencap on the cel-gallery page (below the description), you'll see that Shunsui is actually facing the other direction, and Uki is holding that one sword pointed almost straight downward. XD So, I got NO HELP FROM THE SCREENCAP for helping to figure out the shading. ;;;;;;;;;;;

And for those who might ask...
"Fancels" are basically fan made animation cels. Both real and fanmade ones are drawn and painted on clear plastic. The challenge with them is that you basically have to paint them backwards-- The outlines are on the front (top) of the plastic, then you flip it over and paint on the BACK of it. You generally have to paint the tiny details first, instead of starting with large flat areas of color like you'd usually do with painting on canvas.
It's pretty challenging sometimes, but fun.

**note: NO, I did not paint the background. XD It's one of the cel backgrounds that I own. Keen-eyed Saiyuki fans will recognize it from the beer-can scene from the beginning of the second episode of the "Gensomaden" season. It was the only one I have that has a "fire" color scheme, so I used it for Uki & Shunsui here. XD
On top of that, I actually had to add the background digitally because the cel is so big. XD I had to shrink the cel down in Photoshop to get it to fit on the background! *lol*
