very good job!, what program you use to make the stains to start your work?

Alchemy! [link]

It's a fun program, I really recommend it since it is entirely free.

I must sound like a broken record now.

I love it!

Do you usually work on one layer and then just repaint over what you want to change? I noticed you said that you made the head smaller, and I don't think you repainted all of it just to make it smaller (so maybe the transform tool? O.o), but on a single layer that would make me cringe.

Thanks for posting this! I like seeing how you work, of course.
When I draw, I never decide a light source until too late.

You're right. I don't use layers too often, but I do so in specific areas, like the face, so I can easily return back to a previous state if I am unhappy with the current one. At a point like you mentioned I'll do shift+ctrl+e to merge visible layers and then I am able to make a selection, copy and paste that selection, and then freely transform anything with that selection. After that I merge and repaint areas that don't quite match up.

I hope that makes sense, It sounds so confusing when I reread it back to myself.

Oh, that's interesting. Sounds like quite a simple and effective process, not too confusing! It does make sense.
