Only in Modern Greek. In the Ancient Greek alphabet (which is where all these weird student groups get their names from) it's "mu".

no you are wrong,in ancient greek language the letter μ was writen μυ in modern greek it is righten μι but since the letters iota(ι)and ipsilon(υ)are pronounced the same both in modern greek and ancient greek it is pronounced mi.the reason a lots of people pronounce it wrong is probably 1(or both)of those 2:
1)it is from those words wich are pronounced different than they are righten(like the word colonel),probably in the past it was pronounce mi but it changed to mu.
2)they teach it wrong to your schools
