One day I was just suddenly in the mood to draw this picture and I can't quite explain it. I would say it's the first time I've seen a picture this clear in my head before completing it
At first it started just as a sketch I shared with my patrons, But I decided to make a full artwork out of it. I shared it with them around two months ago, and I thought it was time to share it publicly.

There isn't all that much love for Skye, so it's nice to see her a little more, especially drawn by you.

I agree. Sky is very underrated and her redesign is very eye catching and even has some elements to it that tell you a bit about her such as how her hood goes with the fact that she’s a scavenger for lost bird eggs or how her top is in the shape of bird eggs and her pants make her look like a real animal trainer. If there’s one thing I can say about WayForward it’s that they’re really good at designing characters… I just wish they took themselves a bit more seriously.

Their designs are indeed top notch. What they lack in subtlety, they get in flair and in hyperbole, whether it's the stitches and staples in Rottytops, the skull-designed top and lower half of Risky's costume and all the other little touches here and there. Skye is no different for precisely the reasons you push forth.
Not sure I wholeheartedly agree about the serious part, though. I do enjoy a game that does know how to balance levity and gravitas, albeit not all the games do it all that well in the series. I believe they did it better in Pirate's Curse than they did in Half-Genie Hero, personally.

Oh, well I’m not talking about Risky. I do agree with you on the designs even if they are admittedly pretty flaunty, but it makes sense with the time period, even though there are a lot of weird anachronisms, and plus I’ve been watching Kill La Kill and if that show can get away with character designs that are even more flaunty then I don’t see a problem with Shantae doing it. By the way, what do you mean by hyperbole?… Is that a joke?

By hyperbole, I mean exaggeration, either by design or by actions from the characters themselves. The dialogue, the jokes, the environments and a lot of elements in the games are as unsubtle as possible occasionally, which I believe is an intended effect from the developers themselves.

Oh, well I never looked at it that way because I was too fascinated by the visuals. It’s funny you mention that because the jokes were the very things that made me lose a lot of respect for the developers after I played Pirate’s Curse. I’m not afraid to admit that I absolutely despise that game. At least Half Genie Hero was a bit better though, but it didn’t get back ALL of my respect.

I never said it was a bad game, I just hate it because of what it represents to me. That and I just don’t like it as a continuation to Risky’s Revenge. And I get that they needed Shantae to do something different in this game, which is why she uses the pirate gear and it makes sense from a story perspective, but that doesn’t mean I like it.

No, I didn’t say that either. There’s more to it than that. I don’t like it because of what it represents to me and because I don’t like it as a continuation to Risky’s Revenge. The pirate gear is only a small fraction of why.
